Dual Lineages of Langerhans Cells Cooperate to Restore the Immune Barrier after Skin Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
After skin injury, the epidermal immune barrier is rebuilt by two sources of Langerhans cells. Resident Langerhans cells first move into the wound during re‐epithelialization, guided by CXCR2 signaling. Later, recruited monocytes become long‐lived Langerhans cells.

Combustion products from ventilation controlled fires: toxicity assessment and modelling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Toxic smoke from fires is regularly identified as the leading cause of death in fire casualties. In most countries statistics suggest more than 70% of fire deaths are caused by either toxic smoke inhalation, or heat burns and toxic smoke inhalation.

A comprehensive review of computational modeling, data analytics, and intelligent approaches to greenhouse ventilation systems

open access: yesSmart Agricultural Technology
Ventilation is the primary mechanism to control temperature, relative humidity, and carbon dioxide levels in greenhouses. Properly designed ventilation systems remove sensible and latent heat generated by solar radiation and crop transpiration while ...

UFL1‐Mediated UFMylation of ENO1 Restrains Aerobic Glycolysis and Colorectal Cancer Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
UFMylation restrains aerobic glycolysis and colorectal cancer progression by modifying the glycolytic enzyme ENO1. Pharmacological enhancement of the UFL1–ENO1 interaction by the FDA‐approved antibiotic torezolid promotes ENO1 UFMylation, suppresses tumor metabolism, and sensitizes colorectal cancer to chemotherapy, revealing an actionable metabolic ...

Temperature‐ and Light‐Regulated Liquid Crystal Smart Window for Dynamic Control of Daylight and Solar Heat in All‐Weather Conditions

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
An environmentally adaptive smart window based on the interplay of light‐driven molecular motors and liquid crystal (LC) polymers is developed. The window can dynamically switch among three distinct working states: transparent, reflective, and scattering, depending on ambient temperature and solar light intensity, enabling excellent modulation of ...

The Effect of Changing Ventilation Conditions after COVID-19 on Thermal Loads in Naturally Ventilated Higher Education Classrooms

open access: yesIconarp International Journal of Architecture and Planning
It is difficult to control the recommended ventilation rates for infection control during the COVID-19 preriod by natural ventilation. While insufficient ventilation increases the risk of infection, excessive ventilation can cause problems in energy ...

The Influence of Ventilation on Buildings’ Energy Performance [PDF]

open access: yes
Until the end of 90-ties all dwelling buildings in Latvia were equipped with mandatory natural ventilation systems with stack effect. Nowadays in many cases in dwellings there are only exhaust mechanical ventilation but air tight windows prevent natural ...
