Influence of Candelilla Wax on Mechanical Strength, Thermal Stability, and Moisture Resistance of Cassava-based Thermoplastic Starch Composites

open access: yesBioResources
A bio-based reinforcement strategy was studied as a means to overcome the inherent weaknesses of thermoplastic cassava starch (TPCS), namely its low mechanical strength and high susceptibility to moisture.

3D‐Printed Gradient Shape‐Memory Strain Sensors With Rewritable Gauge Factors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D‐printed shape‐memory strain sensor combines thermomechanical programming with gradient architectural design. Preset strain rewrites the gauge factor (GF), while the gradient geometry amplifies the response through strain redistribution. Reprogrammable sensitivity enables the same sensor to detect weak pulse signals and monitor large‐amplitude ...

Defect‐Mediated Inelastic Light Scattering by Infrared Phonons in Hexagonal Boron Nitride

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Optically active defects in hexagonal boron nitride enable inelastic stimulated light scattering mediated by infrared‐active phonons, relaxing conventional Raman selection rules. Defect engineering enhances the Stokes‐conversion process and activates both TO‐ and LO‐phonon scattering channels.

Hydrogels Augmented With Artificial Sweeteners can Inhibit Multidrug‐Resistant Acinetobacter baumannii Growth and Biofilm Formation While Demonstrating Safety in Pre‐Clinical Pilot Human Trials

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Using PVA–borax hydrogels as carriers for off‐the‐shelf artificial sweeteners to fight multidrug‐resistant A. baumannii. These soft, biocompatible hydrogels rapidly reduce bacterial viability within multidrug‐resistant A. baumannii biofilms by more than 99% within one hour and sustain antimicrobial activity over time, while demonstrating safety in both

Candelilla Wax-Based Oleogels: A New Perspective in Solid Fat Production

open access: yesApplied Medical Informatics
The research aimed to obtain and characterize new fats with zero trans and low saturated fatty acid content. Natural candelilla wax was used as an oleogelator in a percentage of 9% to build oleogel systems based on vegetable oils. Candelilla wax (DW) was

Patient‐Derived 3D Heart‐On‐a‐Chip Model of Dilated Cardiomyopathy With Embedded Bead‐Based Mapping of Tissue Contractility

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A heart‐on‐a‐chip model of dilated cardiomyopathy is developed from patient‐derived induced pluripotent stem cells. The model recapitulates key disease phenotypes and enables functional assessment through integrated bead‐based tracking and pillar deflection measurements.
