Uniform Amorphization of Crystalline Silicon Surfaces Enabled by Deep Ultraviolet Femtosecond Laser Pulses

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Deep‐UV (258 nm) femtosecond pulses enable uniform amorphous silicon writing on Si(100)/(111) with a six‐fold larger fluence amorphization window than NIR methods. Optimized fluence and overlap yield 20–45 nm uniform and continuous amorphous layers. Microscopy shows sharp interfaces, and real‐time reflectivity reveals nanosecond melt–resolidification ...

The Friction and Wear Behaviors of Vegetable Oil‐Based Waxes, Natural Beeswax, and Petroleum Paraffin Wax

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 2020
AbstractQuantitative analyses on the coefficient of friction of common coating waxes are necessary and essential for designing systems for coating, conveying, packaging operations, transporting, and storing of papers and paperboards, while analyses on wear behavior can be helpful for predicting performance durability of the coating surface.

Inhibitor-Wax Interactions and Wax Crystallization: New Experimental Approaches and Techniques

open access: yes, 2018
Issues related to wax crystallization are one of the major challenges faced during crude oil production. Wax inhibitors and pour point depressants (PPD) are in common use for wax prevention, as they can delay gelling and ensure low enough crude oil ...

Self‐Cleaning Sensor Surfaces for Long‐Term Environmental Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Long‐term use of unattended outdoor sensors without soiling or biofouling is achieved through generation of a micro‐ and nanorough cuvette surface by combing hydrophobic nanoparticles with fluorinated polymers, crosslinked and surface‐attached through CHic chemistry. The coating demonstrates self‐cleaning behavior and prolonged outdoor stability, which

Oligosaccharide release from frozen and paraffin-wax-embedded archival tissues.

open access: yes, 1996
Altered glycosylation is a feature of many solid tissue diseases such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, cancer, and connective tissue disorders. Conventionally, oligosaccharide changes have been studied by immunohistochemical techniques.

Optimisation of the Wax and Oil Phases in a Conventional Lipstick Using Mixture Design [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Lipstick is essentially a mixture of oils, waxes and pastes. The type and ratio of ingredients in the lipstick base determine the type and intensity of interactions, which directly affect the quality of lipstick.

Simulation‐Based Analysis of Insert Pull‐Out in Nickel‐Polyurethane Hybrid Foams Using CT‐Derived Geometries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
CT‐based finite element simulations combined with in situ X‐ray computed tomography are used to analyze insert pull‐out in nickel‐coated polymer foams. Despite variations in material parameters, deformation consistently concentrates within a narrow annular region around the insert.
