Is-it worth investing in NBS aiming at reducing water risks? Insights from the economic assessment of three European case studies

open access: yesNature-Based Solutions, 2021
Economic narratives are largely put forward as an argument for the promotion of Nature Based Solutions (NBS). However, integrated economic evidence, taking into account direct and opportunity costs, avoided damages and the multiplicity of co-benefits ...

Embedding technologies for improving Nature-Based Solutions performance and fostering social inclusion in urban greening strategies: Augmented NBS for cities [PDF]

open access: yes
Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) have been at the forefront of the European Commission policies since 2015 (Eggermont et al., 2015) as a specific thematic area for developing sustainable cities strategies either from social inclusivity or innovative urban ...

LEARNING WITH NATURE: A REVIEW ON NATURE-BASED SOLUTIONS (NBS)

open access: yesRevista Gestão & Sustentabilidade Ambiental, 2021
This work aims to describe how the field of scientific research on Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) is configured. For this, we carried out a bibliometric review. The bibliometric review uses quantitative data to analyze the bibliographic production on a given topic and helps researchers to find relevant works, research concentrations and themes in which ...

Cancer‐associated mutations in endometriosis reframe a benign disease through molecular oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review aims to comprehensively analyse cancer‐associated somatic mutations (CAMs) present in endometriotic lesions, emphasizing their biological roles, spatial distribution and implications for translational applications in medicine. By contextualizing a benign state within a genomic framework, this analysis seeks to establish its value as a ...

Extracellular matrix remodeling and immune reprogramming drive residual tumor progression of liver cancer after incomplete microwave ablation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Incomplete microwave ablation (iMWA) of liver cancer triggers a biphasic progression in residual tumors. At Day 3, the microenvironment is characterized by acute inflammatory responses and extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. By Day 14, a profound shift occurs toward oncogenic signal transduction and immunosuppression, marked by macrophage ...

Heterotropic regulation and negative homotropic cooperativity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We identified a structural module common to some proteins that couple negative cooperativity with heterotropic regulation, two features that rarely coexist. These proteins are ring‐like and present an ordered asymmetry whereby noncontacting subunits are symmetric, and their tertiary structure differs from that of contacting subunits.

Chronobiology of Cancer: How Aging Fuels Oncogenesis at the Molecular Level

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract illustrates the key biological pathways linking aging with cancer development and progression. In the upper left, cumulative exposure to ultraviolet radiation, toxins, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) causes DNA damage and genomic instability, whereas age‐related decline in repair mechanisms, such as ATM/ATR, BER, and NER ...
