Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Novel pathways to value nature: how guided forest bathing promotes new relationships with nature

open access: yesEcology and Society
Our relationship with nature adapts to our daily nature routines and it is rarely challenged. Forest bathing has been studied for its well-being benefits, but its potential as a novel nature-based activity to enrich human-nature relationships has not yet

Excited Baryons in Large $N_c$ QCD

open access: yes, 2005
This talk reviews recent developments in the use of large $N_c$ QCD in the description of baryonic resonances. The emphasis is on the model-independent nature of the approach.

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Understanding the lived experience of connection to nature

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, 2021
There are multiple theoretical understandings of connection to nature. Often, scholars define a connection to nature as being the outcome of a process of awakening “biophilia.” They may also define it as the maturation or development of an “ecological ...

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Noticing nature: The role of environmental awareness in promoting well‐being

open access: yesPeople and Nature
Spending time in natural environments is associated with enhanced well‐being, including reduced stress and improved cognitive restoration. This experimental study investigates whether these benefits can be amplified by providing environmental prompts to ...

Exotic Heavy Quark Spectroscopy - Theory Interpretation vs Data

open access: yes, 2013
An overview over recent spectroscopy results in comparison with data is given. We focus on the exotica Z_b(10610), Z_b(10650) and Y_b(10890) in the bottom sector and discuss a possible connection to the exotica in the charm sector, namely to the ...

Sustainable bioplastics manufacturing from renewable sources

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioplastics are manufactured by using polymers from different bio‐based sources. These novel materials not only offer biodegradability but also possess various functional properties that make them suitable for diverse applications. Recent developments in the preparation of bioplastics are reported, highlighting the distinct properties of each type of ...
