Ergonomic aspects of automation in navigation bridges
Applied Ergonomics, 1971New ergonomic questions arise from the tendency toward increasing automation in maritime operations. Direct control of engines and rudder from the bridge promises improved ship control, provided that the operator can really exploit the technical improvements. To make such direct control most efficient, good ergonomic design is essential.

Arrangement of Navigating Bridge with Emphasis on Bridge Visibility
Marine Technology and SNAME News, 1985This paper examines the influences that help to determine merchant vessel bridge arrangement; in particular, it focuses on navigating bridge visibility. The efforts to develop bridge visibility guidelines both nationally (U.S. Coast Guard/Maritime Administration) and internationally (International Maritime Organization) are discussed.

Navigation of an unmanned surface vessel under bridges
2013 10th International Conference on Ubiquitous Robots and Ambient Intelligence (URAI), 2013Obstacle detection and localization relative to surrounding objects or structures are important for safe vehicle navigation. This capability is particularly useful for unmanned surface vessels (USVs) operating near large structures that will block GPS signals.

Sensing for Autonomous Navigation Inside Steel Bridges
2018 IEEE SENSORS, 2018The main contribution of this paper is a strategy to build a map of a bridge structure and estimate the precise location of a robot within it. In particular, the focus is on the autonomous navigation of a robot inside the steel arches that support the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Bridging program comprehension tools by design navigation
Proceedings International Conference on Software Maintenance ICSM-94, 2000Source code investigation is one of the most time-consuming activities during software maintenance and evolution, yet currently-available tool support suffers from several shortcomings. Browsing is typically limited to low-level elements, investigation is only supported as a one-way activity, and tools provide little help in getting an encompassing ...

Optimization Model of the Inland Bridge Navigation Hole
2016In order to make full use of the river coast resources and reduce the influence of the inland bridge construction on the shipping and logistics distribution, this paper uses the method combining the dynamic programming and grey theory to establish inland river bridge navigation hole distribution optimization model. Using the Wuhan Zhuankou bridge as an

Navigation of Inland Waterways at Bridge Crossings
Ports 2010, 2010This paper discusses the effects of bridges on the navigation of inland waterways and presents a methodology for navigation clearance and vessel-bridge collision risk assessment. The approach is probabilistic and considers the effects of limited clearance on the transit of vessels, estimates the vessel-bridge collision probabilities and the associated ...
