Intermediate mass black holes in AGN disks: I. Production & Growth

open access: yes, 2012
Here we propose a mechanism for efficiently growing intermediate mass black holes (IMBH) in disks around supermassive black holes. Stellar mass objects can efficiently agglomerate when facilitated by the gas disk.

Strain accommodation through facet matching in La$_\text{1.85}$Sr$_\text{0.15}$CuO$_\text{4}$/Nd$_\text{1.85}$Ce$_\text{0.15}$CuO$_\text{4}$ ramp-edge junctions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Scanning nano-focused X-ray diffraction (nXRD) and high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF-STEM) are used to investigate the crystal structure of ramp-edge junctions between superconducting electron-doped Nd$_\text ...

Study of the reactivity of Kraft and organosolv lignins with 4, 4’–diphenylmethane diisocyanate and characterization of the obtained products [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The interaction of two types of lignins: Kraft lignin (KL), isolated according to the LignoBoost process (Sweden), and Alcell organosolv (OL) lignin (Canada), with 4,4’-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) in the dry dioxane media at 25 degrees of Celsius,

Small and large polarons in nickelates, manganites, and cuprates

open access: yes, 1997
By comparing the optical conductivities of La_{1.67}Sr_{0.33}NiO_{4} (LSNO), Sr_{1.5}La_{0.5}MnO_4 (SLMO), Nd_2CuO_{4-y} (NCO), and Nd_{1.96}Ce_{0.04}CuO_{4} (NCCO), we have identified a peculiar behavior of polarons in this cuprate family. While in LSNO

A shock tube study of reactions of NCO with O and NO using NCO laser absorption

open access: yesSymposium (International) on Combustion, 1992
The absorption coefficient of NCO at 440.4790 nm (vac) was determined using a cw ring dye laser and shock-heated HNCO/N2O/Ar mixtures at temperatures and pressures ranging from 2180 K to 3070 K and 0.9 to 1.1 atmospheres, respectively. The source of NCO in these experiments was the reaction O+HNCO→OH+NCO (2a) where the O-atoms were produced by the ...

Stability Control of the DC/DC Converter in DC Microgrids Considering Negative Damping and Parameter Uncertainties

open access: yesEnergies
To address the issue of negative damping instability easily induced by DC/DC converters under constant power load (CPL) in DC microgrids and to enhance the control robustness of the system under uncertainties such as parameter perturbations, this paper ...

Polaronic optical absorption in electron-doped and hole-doped cuprates

open access: yes, 1995
Polaronic features similar to those previously observed in the photoinduced spectra of cuprates have been detected in the reflectivity spectra of chemically doped parent compounds of high-critical-temperature superconductors, both $n$-type and $p$-type ...
