2019 IEEE International Conference on Prognostics and Health Management (ICPHM), 2019
Current nondestructive evaluation (NDE) and testing practices are burdened by "conventional wisdom," which requires that the operator be involved in all aspects of the data collection, transfer, and analysis. Many of these shortcomings are rooted in inefficiency and can be addressed by updating standard practices to be more aligned with Industry 4.0 or

NDE Procedure Validation and Use in NDE System Calibration for NDE Applications
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2005Probability of Detection (POD) has evolved as the primary metric for assessing the capability of an NDE procedure. Reliability application requires that the NDE procedure be reproduced and repeated to provide confidence that the NDE process is functioning at the POD validation level. The key to NDE reproducibility is in system “calibration”.
