Flood Proxy Mapping with Normalized Difference Sigma-Naught Index and Shannon’s Entropy
Rainfall-induced floods often cause significant loss of life as well as damage to infrastructure and crops. Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Earth Observation Satellites (EOS) can be used to determine the extent of flooding over large geographical areas ...

Deforestation in the tropics is a major threat to forest‐specialist animals, many of which are already threatened with extinction. We assessed how forest fragmentation and its associated edge‐effects impact animal biodiversity in Northwest Madagascar using soundscape analysis and acoustic indices.

Changes in the Greenland Ice Sheet of the Southeastern Maniitsoq Coast from 1994-2004 and 2009-2019 [PDF]
Remote sensing mechanisms through the use of technology like the Landsat 5-7 Land Manager satellites are commonly used in conjunction with multispectral methods such as unsupervised classification to record and analyze changes in snow and ice over time ...

Seasonal Habitat Selection by a Threatened Ungulate in an Industrializing Boreal Landscape
Understanding habitat selection by Threatened wood bison in landscapes characterized by anthropogenic disturbance is important for conservation planning. During summer and winter, bison selected for linear (e.g., roads, seismic lines, pipelines) and polygonal (e.g., well sites) disturbances, unless there were high densities of linear features.

Climate Controls on Carbon Dioxide Fluxes in a High‐Elevation Grassland
Climate change is significantly influencing high‐elevation grasslands, possibly unbalancing CO2 exchanges and the sink‐source dynamics. Cumulated heat available for plant growth and vegetation cover were identified as the main controllers of phenological development and, via direct or mediated effects, of CO2 fluxes (ER and GPP).

ABSTRACT In recent times, the development of algorithms to delineate water surface maps has significantly boosted flood monitoring and mitigation efforts by utilizing dual polarization, multi‐temporal Sentinel‐1 synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data. The Sentinel‐1 mission, with its global land monitoring capability, has been widely employed for SAR ...

Normalized-Difference Snow Index (NDSI) [PDF]
The Normalized-Difference Snow Index (NDSI) has a long history. 'The use of ratioing visible (VIS) and near-infrared (NIR) or short-wave infrared (SWIR) channels to separate snow and clouds was documented in the literature beginning in the mid-1970s.

Multi‐Sensor Spatiotemporal Fusion for 30‐m Daily Gapless Snow Cover Mapping
Abstract High spatiotemporal resolution remote sensing data is crucial for monitoring heterogeneous mountainous snow cover. Although spatiotemporal fusion presents a promising approach for high‐resolution snow monitoring, cloud contamination and sparse observations remain a critical constraint on its large‐scale and long‐term implementation. To address
