The Importance and Mechanics of Near‐Seafloor Oxygenation Events in Shallow Coastal Environments
Abstract Bottom‐water oxygen (O2) possibly constitutes the strongest regulating factor on ecosystem function of the seafloor environment. The conventional view of bottom‐water O2 regulation in temperate regions is a strong seasonal variability imposed by deposition of fresh, labile organic carbon following the spring and fall plankton bloom generating ...

Tides are the dominant hydrodynamic processes in most continental shelf seas and have been proven to have a significant impact on both marine ecosystem dynamics and biogeochemical cycles.

Decadal‐Scale Bathymetric Change in a Shallow Coastal Bay
Abstract Coastal marshes and bays must accumulate sediment to maintain their position relative to mean sea level during periods of sea level rise (SLR). Resuspension of bay‐bottom sediment, which together with tidal inundation promotes marsh deposition, is sensitive to water depth, but quantitative measurements of bathymetric change across shallow bays

Processes Impacting the Fate of Small River Plumes Following Storms
Abstract We investigate conditions for small discharge plume formation and transport using observations near a low‐inflow estuary in San Diego, CA. We find that the precise timing of discharge and tides influences the source region of small plumes and determines when plume formation occurs.

Abstract Turbidity currents are increasingly recognised as a key mechanism for transporting sediment into the deep ocean, yet their structure, behavior, and long‐term impact in Antarctic submarine canyons remain poorly understood owing to a lack of direct observations.

Temporal and Tidal Rhythms Shape Courtship and Agonistic Calls in Plainfin Midshipman Toadfish
ABSTRACT In many species, acoustic communication is essential for successful reproduction, parental care, and predator defense. The plainfin midshipman, Porichthys notatus, is a soniferous toadfish that relies on acoustic communication, with nest‐guarding males emitting long, tonal “hums” to attract mates, and short “grunts” and “growls” to defend ...
