Foveation in near-eye holographic display

2018 International Conference on Information and Communication Technology Convergence (ICTC), 2018
Foveation is applied for the near-eye holographic display to relieve the requirement of the computing power and the space-bandwidth-product. Foveated point cloud data reduces the computational load in hologram synthesis and the foveated holographic display provides field of view exceeding the given space-bandwidth-product.

Slim near-eye display using pinhole aperture arrays

Applied Optics, 2015
We report a new technique for building a wide-angle, lightweight, thin-form-factor, cost-effective, easy-to-manufacture near-eye head-mounted display (HMD) for virtual reality applications. Our approach adopts an aperture mask containing an array of pinholes and a screen as a source of imagery.

Near-eye light-field display with polarization multiplexing

Advances in Display Technologies IX, 2019
We report a polarization-multiplexed additive light field display for near-eye applications. A polarization-sensitive Pancharatnam-Berry phase lens is implemented to generate two focal depths simultaneously. Then, a spatial polarization modulator is utilized to control the polarization state of each pixel and direct the two images to designated focal ...

Computational See-Through Near-Eye Displays

2015
See-through near-eye displays with the form factor and field of view of eyeglasses are a natural choice for augmented reality systems: the non-encumbering size enables casual and extended use and large field of view enables general-purpose spatially registered applications. However, designing displays with these attributes is currently an open problem.

A compact retinal scan near-eye display

ACM SIGGRAPH 2019 Emerging Technologies, 2019
A compact full color laser beam scanning (LBS)-based Augmented Reality (AR) near-eye display has been developed. By the unique relay optical system adopting a novel holographic grating to compensate the color dispersion of holographic image combiner in front of the eye, we have achieved high resolution (1280x720p), large field of view (47degree ...

Compact volumetric see-through near-eye display

2023
Near-eye displays (NEDs) are devices placed in the vicinity of a person’s visual field to facilitate the implementation of augmented reality (AR), by conveying visual information such as virtual images. Because NEDs are usually put on the head and present virtual imagery to the user, many considerations with regards to the areas such as optics ...
