Neuromorphic Electronics for Intelligence Everywhere: Emerging Devices, Flexible Platforms, and Scalable System Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The perspective presents an integrated view of neuromorphic technologies, from device physics to real‐time applicability, while highlighting the necessity of full‐stack co‐optimization. By outlining practical hardware‐level strategies to exploit device behavior and mitigate non‐idealities, it shows pathways for building efficient, scalable, and ...

Multivariate probabilistic seismic demand analysis of steel-concrete composite bridges under near-fault pulse-like ground motions

open access: yes, 2015
In recent years, the short-to-medium span steel-concrete composite bridges have been used more and more worldwide. However, the seismic performance of this kind of bridges, especially under near-fault pulse-like ground motions, has not been well ...

When Poor Exciton Dissociation Limits Photocurrents in Organic Solar Cells: Why Low Offset Non‐Fullerene Acceptor Blends Can't Be Efficient

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The energetic offset between the donor and the acceptor components in organic photoactive layers is central to the tradeoff between photovoltage and photocurrent losses. This Perspective covers the most important issues surrounding this topic in non‐fullerene acceptor blends, from the difficulty of accurately determining state energies and driving ...

Effects of Velocity Pulse-Like Ground Motions on the Seismic Failure Behavior of Masonry Minarets

open access: yes
This research is motivated by post-earthquake observations of significant structural damage to minarets during the 2023 Kahramanmara & scedil; earthquakes. It is thought that the near-fault velocity pulse-like ground motions played a crucial role in this

Elastomeric 3D‐Printed Microenvironments Enable Nanonewton Force Measurements in Healthy and Diseased Human Pluripotent Stem Cell‐Derived Neuroepithelial Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We present elastomeric three‐dimensional (3D) microstructures fabricated via two‐photon polymerization (2PP) and post‐processed through wet etching, for quantifying nanonewton (nN)‐scale forces applied by healthy and diseased neural cells. The mechanically characterized free‐standing beam architectures enable measurement of traction forces of ...

Wearable Morphology‐Adaptive in‐Ear Device With Active Cleansing Capability for Multimodal Health Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We present SCIENCE, an in‐ear multimodal physiological monitor featuring two key innovations. Water‐triggered morphological expansion (a 2‐mm cylinder to a 9‐mm spindle) achieves conformal adaptation across complex canal geometries. Simultaneously, active biofouling mitigation disrupts cerumen barriers, reducing sensor‐skin impedance by 20%.

Atomic‐Scale Detection of Néel Vector Switching in the Single‐Layer A‐Type Antiferromagnet Cr2S3‐2D

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Interfacial electron donation from graphene redistributes charge within single‐layer Cr2S3‐2D, preferentially accumulating at the lower Cr/S plane. The resulting minute magnetic imbalance lifts the equivalence of the two magnetic sublayers, enabling atomic‐resolution identification and field‐induced control of Néel‐vector states in a two‐dimensional A ...

Impact of Near-Fault Ground Motions on Longitudinal Seismic Response of CHRF Bridges

open access: yes, 2022
Curved high-pier rigid frame bridges (CHRF bridges) are unavoidably affected by near-fault ground motions (NFGMs), and seismic pounding between adjacent components of CHRF bridge has a significant effect on the seismic performance of CHRF bridges.

Fast Hydrogel Micro‐Actuators Driven by Electric Fields

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We report the fabrication of chemically programmable electroactuating microstructures through the first integration of two‐photon polymerization with electrically actuated gelatin methacrylate‐based hydrogels. By tailoring the charge of the polymer network, we demonstrate programmable polarity‐dependent bending, enabling microstructures that ...

Bioengineered Interfaces for Peripheral Nerve Sensory Restoration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Half of amputees abandon their prosthetics for lack of feeling. This review charts the full path from peripheral nerve injury to restored sensation, through surgical, regenerative, noninvasive, and implanted approaches, and shows how injury type and interface material properties determine which strategy can deliver naturalistic feedback, and why ...
