Near-field scanning optical microscope probe analysis
Ultramicroscopy, 2008In this article results of a comparison of two NSOM probe characterization methods are presented. Scanning electron microscopy analysis combined with electromagnetic field modeling using the finite difference in time domain method are compared with measured far-field radiation diagrams of NSOM probes. It is shown that measurement of far-field radiation

Photothermal near-field scanning optical microscope (PT-NSOM) which gives lateral resolution below the diffraction limit has been developed. The substances are excited by the evanescent wave emitted from the small aperture (around 100 nm φ) of the metal-coated optical fiber probe, resulting in a formation of refractive index change, or the so-called ...

Hybridization of Scanning Near-Field Optical Microscope with Scanning Tunneling Microscope
Molecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals Science and Technology. Section A. Molecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals, 1999Abstract Scanning near-field optical microscope (SNOM) is hybridized with scanning tunneling microscope (STM) in order to achieve a higher spatial resolution by introducing a doubly metal-coated optical fiber tip with a nm-scale aperture. The result of a simultaneous SNOM/STM imaging of Au(111) indicates the boundary-sensitive detection in SNOM mode ...

Versatile near-field scanning optical microscope
SPIE Proceedings, 2000As a branch of scanning probe microscopy, near field scanning optical microscopy (NSOM) has been the most intensively developed for the past few years. A wide variety of types of NSOM have been created of recent years. However, a versatile NSOM that allow to investigate a same with different near field microscopy is not worked out up to now. In our lab

Heterodyne scanning near-field optical microscope
SPIE Proceedings, 2003A coherent scanning near-field optical microscope (SNOM) is presented. The set-up employs heterodyne interferometry, allowing measurements of both amplitude and phase of the optical field. Experimental results show polarization effects that reveal important information about the vectorial field conversion by the fiber tip.

Magneto‐optical scanning near‐field microscope
physica status solidi (a), 2006AbstractA set‐up able to achieve a magnetic characterization at a sub‐micron scale will be presented. Together with topographic and optical images, it is possible to plot local hysteresis loops (LHL) and magneto‐optical differential susceptibility (MODS) using a transverse MOKE‐like configuration. We will show how MODS allows to follow the evolution of

Optical‐fibre scanning near‐field optical microscope for cryogenic operation
Journal of Microscopy, 1999We have developed a new type of scanning near‐field optical microscope (SNOM) utilizing optical fibres. The probe tip is controlled by shear force feedback with a fibre interferometer and signal light is collected directly by a multimode fibre. These features make the SNOM head more compact and less sensitive to vibration.
