Near-Field Thermal Transistor [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2014
Using a block of three separated solid elements, a thermal source and drain together with a gate made of an insulator-metal transition material exchanging near-field thermal radiation, we introduce a nanoscale analog of a field-effect transistor which is able to control the flow of heat exchanged by evanescent thermal photons between two bodies.

Optimal E-Field Vector Combination for a Highly Focused Antenna-Array [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A near-field highly focused circular phased-array antenna for 5.8-GHz radio frequency identification (RFID) applications is presented. The electric field (E-field) at the focus is enhanced by a constructive vector combination in a three-dimensional (3-D)

Near Field Models of Spatially-Fed Planar Arrays and Their Application to Multi-Frequency Direct Layout Optimization for mm-Wave 5G New Radio Indoor Network Coverage

open access: yesSensors, 2022
Two near field models for the analysis of spatially fed planar array antennas are presented, compared and applied to a multi-frequency wideband direct layout optimization for mm-Wave 5G new radio (NR) indoor network coverage.

Communication Modes With Large Intelligent Surfaces in the Near Field [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
This paper proposes a practical method for the definition of communication modes when antennas operate in the near-field region, by realizing ad-hoc beams exploiting the focusing capability of large antennas. The beamspace modeling proposed to define the

Near-Earth substorm features from multiple satellite observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We investigate a substorm on 3 October 2004 during which 11 satellites were located in near-Earth magnetotail (XGSM > −10 RE). Double Star 1 (TC-1), Cluster, and LANL-97 satellites were closely aligned in the dawn-dusk direction (
