Rapid measurement of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon contamination in soils by visible and near-infrared spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are widely distributed organic pollutants. At petroleum contaminated sites, PAHs are often the key risk drivers because of their carcinogenicity. Assessing the risk of PAH at contaminated sites by conventional soil

High‐Temperature Nanoindentation of Metals: Assessing Thermal Drift, Frame Compliance, and Chemical Composition Effects on the Reported Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...

Clinical Application of Near-Infrared Spectroscopy in Neonates [PDF]

open access: yesNeonatal Medicine, 2019
The incidence of cerebral palsy has not decreased despite advances in neonatal care. Preterm infants are at a high risk of cerebral palsy. Moreover, preterm infants might experience permanent neurological sequelae due to injury in the preterm brain ...

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Review: Nutritive evaluation of forages by near infrared reflectance spectroscopy

open access: yes, 2005
11 pages.Since the potential of near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy for forage evaluation was discovered three decades ago, it has become clear that it is a powerful tool for the estimation of chemical components in these feed-stuffs.

Predicting Forage Nutritional Quality With Near‐Infrared Spectroscopy

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Agriculture and Environment
The quality of green forage is crucial in pasture grazing, influencing both animal welfare, environmental sustainability, and production yield. Traditionally, the evaluation of forage composition requires time‐consuming and costly chemical analysis.

Cathodic Cage Plasma Deposition of Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se Coatings on Poly(methyl Methacrylate)

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se coatings are deposited on PMMA by a modified cathodic cage plasma process, enabling low‐temperature deposition on polymer substrates. A transition from discontinuous to compact morphology is observed with temperature, with optimal properties at 200°C, where improved CuFeSe2‐type bonding, lowest sheet resistance, and favorable ...

Natural Bone‐Derived Ceramic Scaffolds Functionalized with Chitosan‐Gold, Chitosan‐Magnesium, and Chitosan‐Zinc for Enhanced Antibacterial Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports the development of antibacterial ceramic scaffolds derived from natural bovine bone. The bones were processed through sequential boiling and hydrogen peroxide treatment to remove organic matter, producing porous, mineral‐rich scaffolds.

Analysis of goat’s milk by FT Near Infrared spectroscopy

open access: yesActa Universitatis Agriculturae et Silviculturae Mendelianae Brunensis, 2007
Our work deals with a possibility of determining basic composition (fat, true protein, casein, lactose and somatic cells) of goat’s milk Fourier transform near-infrared spectroscopy (FT NIR).
