Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Locally finite nearness frames. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Thesis (M.Sc.)-University of Durban-Westvile, 1998.The concept of a frame was introduced in the mid-sixties by Dowker and Papert. Since then frames have been extensively studied by several authors, including Banaschewski, Pultr and Baboolal to mention ...

Timpul parusiei în învățăturile lui Isus Hristos (partea a II-a)

open access: yesTheoRhēma, 2019
Although much has been written on eschatology and Jesus, yet not all has been said. The article analyzes the language of Christ regarding the time of His return having two issues in view. The first is how should this language be understood?

On near subgroups

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics, 1994
Let \(G\) be an abelian group and let \(A \subseteq G\). Then \(A\) is said to be a near-subgroup (NSG) if for each \(a \in A\) there is an automorphism \(\theta_ a\) of \(G\), such that \(\theta_ a(A) = A + a\). This concept arises in the study of switching of graphs.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

EMD responses and nearness map.

open access: yes, 2015
A) Panoramic view of the environment, consisting of a cubic box covered with a natural grass texture, from the location where the nearness map was computed (front is azimuth 0°). B) log-scaled nearness map computed on the basis of EMD responses.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

NEARNESS STRUCTURE ON TEXTURE SPACES

open access: yes, 2022
Textures are point-set setting for fuzzy sets, and they provide a framework for the complement-free mathematical concepts. This paper is the first of a series of two papers on the theory of nearness spaces.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...
