Ferroelectric Catalysts in the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction: A Perspective

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This perspective summarizes recent advances in ferroelectric (FE) catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). It first introduces HER fundamentals and FE mechanisms, then classifies FE catalysts into single‐phase, single‐atom‐modified, heterostructured, and other engineered types, with representative examples.

Human Health Effects of Chronic Microcystin Exposure: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Hepatic, Renal, and Metabolic Outcomes

open access: yesToxins
Microcystins (MCs) are cyanobacterial hepatotoxins that contaminate bloom-affected freshwater, drinking-water sources, aquatic food webs, and recreational environments.

Unveiling Mechanisms of SEI Formation and Sodium Loss in Sodium Batteries via Interface Reactor Sampling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An “Interface Reactor” strategy boosts simulation stability by 2–3 orders of magnitude, enabling stable 100 ns molecular dynamics of electrode‐electrolyte interfaces. Distinct SEI formation mechanisms are revealed: mixed co‐formation in carbonates versus surface‐energy‐controlled NaF crystallization in ethers. Metadynamics simulations further elucidate

Plant Extracts as Natural Inhibitors of Non-Enzymatic Browning: A Case of Fruits and Fruit-Based Products

open access: yesAppliedChem
Heat processing in fruit and fruit-based food products is aimed at producing nutritious, shelf-stable, and consumer- appealing food products. However, the processing and prolonged storage conditions employed favour non-enzymatic browning (NEB) reactions.

Gestational Hypoxia Disrupts Medial Ganglionic Eminence Progenitor Dynamics and Interneuron Development in Schizophrenia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
FES‐derived MGE spheroids exhibit progenitor‐stage alterations in developmental trajectory and hypoxia‐responsive transcriptional programs, followed by functional disruption. Gestational hypoxia recapitulates impaired progenitor proliferation, shortened cell‐cycle progression, interneuron developmental abnormalities, and schizophrenia‐like behaviors in

Phase‐Dependent Oxygen Defect Energetics in Epitaxial NbN/AlN/NbN Films

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Phase dependent oxygen defect energetics in epitaxial δ‐NbN/AlN/δ‐NbN and β‐Nb2N/AlN/β‐Nb2N trilayers. Atomic‐scale analysis and first‐principles calculations reveal distinct oxygen incorporation pathways across NbN polymorphs. Layer resolved defect formation energies show that O is energetically more favorable within δ‐NbN electrodes, whereas in β ...

A Novel Pak1 Activator Ameliorates ER Stress for HFpEF Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chronic metabolic stress is a major contributor to HFpEF progression. Under prolonged metabolic stress, Pak1 activity becomes impaired, contributing to disrupted ER proteostasis, cardiomyocyte apoptosis, fibrosis, and diastolic dysfunction. Mechanistically, Pak1 overexpression activates the ERK1/2–MNK1–eIF4E signaling axis, promotes translational ...

Classroom implementation of Hill’s force-velocity relationship using accessible materials in resource-limited educational settings

open access: yesAdvances in Physiology Education
The force-velocity relationship, originally described by Hill (Proc Biol Sci 126: 136–195, 1938), is a foundational concept in muscle physiology and biomechanics.

DDX3x Regulates NINJ1 Transcription via Histone Lactylation in Sepsis Associated‐Acute Kidney Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies a potential therapeutic approach for sepsis‐associated acute kidney injury (SA‐AKI). We found that during SA‐AKI, reduced expression of DDX3x in renal tubular epithelial cells mediates histone delactylation, which in turn upregulates NINJ1 transcription and triggers tubular cell death. Conversely, Odetiglucan confers protection by
