Assessing the Number of Components in Mixture Models: a Review. [PDF]

open access: yes
Despite the widespread application of finite mixture models, the decision of how many classes are required to adequately represent the data is, according to many authors, an important, but unsolved issue.

Targeting necroptosis protects against astrocyte death and hippocampal sclerosis in experimental temporal lobe epilepsy

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Experimentally induced status epilepticus induces microglial TNFα release, which binds to astrocytic TNFR1 and triggers activation of RIPK1/RIPK3/MLKL signalling, initiating necroptotic astrocytic death that contributes to the development of hippocampal sclerosis. Conversion Surgery after Chemotherapy in a Stage IV BRAF V600E‐Mutated Laterally Spreading Tumor With Neuroendocrine Component

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT We report a rare case of a BRAF V600E‐mutated laterally spreading tumor, granular type (LST‐G), with a neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) component in a patient with stage IV colorectal cancer. The patient presented with multiple lymph nodes and liver metastases.

Human Milk–Derived Peptide MAMP‐1 Ameliorates Sepsis‐Associated Acute Lung Injury in Mice Through APOA4 and the TLR4/NF‐κB Signaling Pathway

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 2, March 2026.
The study found that MAMP‐1 can alleviate lung injury by modulating the TLR4 signaling pathway to suppress LPS‐induced inflammation and promote cholesterol reverse transport. ABSTRACT Sepsis‐associated acute lung injury (SALI) significantly jeopardizes the health and survival prospects of neonates.

Novel therapeutic strategy targeting STMN1 using chlorambucil‐conjugated pyrrole–imidazole polyamide in small cell lung cancer

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, Volume 158, Issue 5, Page 1336-1347, 1 March 2026.
What's New? Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is aggressive and difficult to treat but exhibits high levels of stathmin 1 (STMN1), a candidate therapeutic target. In this study, the authors synthesized a chlorambucil (Chb)‐conjugated pyrrole–imidazole polyamide (PIP) compound targeting the STMN1 promoter and DNA sequences and evaluated its efficacy in ...

Pigeons, portals, and Pacman: Insightful problem solving and navigation using a touchscreen video game

open access: yesJournal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, Volume 125, Issue 2, March 2026.
Abstract Video games have been used in several studies to investigate problem solving. We present empirical findings from a redesigned touchscreen navigation “grid‐world” procedure resembling the classic video game PacMan (hereafter, “pacman”) played by pigeons. Our objective was to develop a procedure to study insight, similar to that of Epstein et al.

Five‐Minute Apgar Scores and Its Prognostic Value for Mortality and Severe Morbidity in Very Preterm Infants: A Multinational Cohort Study

open access: yesBJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics &Gynaecology, Volume 133, Issue 4, Page 649-659, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine associations between a 5‐min Apgar score < 7 and severe neonatal outcomes in very preterm (VPT) infants and how results are impacted by variations in assigning Apgar scores within an international context. Design Prospective observational population‐based cohort study.

Modification and verification of an antenna design for Petite Amateur Navy Satellite (PANSAT) using NEC

open access: yes, 1995
In this thesis, a tangential turnstile antenna is modified and verified for the Petite Amateur Navy Satellite (PANSAT). The Numerical Electromagnetics Code (NEC) is used to model the antenna system. The final design provides a circularly polarized, omnidirectional radiation pattern with maximum nulls of -2.7 dRi.
