Beyond Brunhild: reassessing women in the Fredegar Chronicle

open access: yesEarly Medieval Europe, EarlyView.
Scholarly consideration of women in the seventh‐century Fredegar chronicle has long been dominated by the author’s hostility towards Brunhild, queen of Austrasia. Statistical analysis of Latin world chronicles before ad 900, however, shows that Fredegar’s representation of women was unusually high within this tradition.

Opposing roles of DGAT‐mediated lipid droplet biogenesis in the regulation of ferroptosis sensitivity

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Ferroptosis is driven by unrestricted peroxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acyl (PUFA) chains in membrane phospholipids. In triple‐negative breast cancer cells, lipid droplets (LDs) sequester dietary PUFAs, limiting their incorporation into membrane phospholipids, preventing mitochondrial damage, and reducing lipid peroxidation and ferroptosis.

Mutual fund director compensation

open access: yesJournal of Financial Research, EarlyView.
Abstract We examine director compensation using a large sample of hand‐compiled U.S. mutual fund data. We find that director compensation is positively correlated with observable productive characteristics—workload, experience, and demographics—that capture the benefits from the directors’ monitoring effort.

Reconfiguring biofortification strategies to transform food systems and address micronutrient deficiency of the 21st century

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
This review explores how to make staple foods and horticultural crops more nutritious, including how artificial intelligence‐based screening of gene banks helps deploy nutritionally rich germplasm into breeding. Genome editing can help develop crops richer in minerals, vitamins, and health‐promoting compounds, supporting healthier diets and more ...

Estimating National and Foreign Trade Elasticities Using Generalized Transport Costs

open access: yesJournal of Regional Science, Volume 65, Issue 2, Page 471-496, March 2025.
ABSTRACT We introduce the definition of two distinct trade elasticities corresponding to imports from regions located in the same country (national elasticities) and foreign regions located in other countries (foreign elasticities). We resort to a three‐tier nested CES utility structure to derive the corresponding demand gravity equations.

Relationships of Early Parenteral Nutrition and Human Milk Fortification on the Growth of Neonates With Birth Weights Between 1500 and 1750 g

open access: yesJournal of Paediatrics and Child Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Low‐birthweight infants have high nutrient requirements; however, early parenteral nutrition (EPN) and human milk fortification (HF) are provided in very low‐birthweight infants. We changed the indications for EPN and HF from very low birth weight to birth weight < 1750 g in our hospital in April 2019.

Neonatal Acute Kidney Injury—An Australian and New Zealand Perspective

open access: yesJournal of Paediatrics and Child Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Acute kidney injury (AKI) is increasingly recognized as a critical and underdiagnosed condition among neonates, with significant short and long‐term implications for survival, kidney function, and long‐term cardiovascular health. Neonatal physiology, including ongoing nephrogenesis, immature renal haemodynamics, and limited glomerular ...

City of God and the Duty of Just Memory

open access: yesModern Theology, EarlyView.
Abstract In a recent essay, Richard Miller claims that Augustine presumes a duty to remember justly in his City of God. However, Miller's brief reference to a presumed duty of “just memory” does not fully explain how Augustine conceptualizes this duty or how it relates to his theological concerns.

Design of a collimator for breast-specific gamma imaging and assessment of NEC rate for a pet scanner using Monte Carlo simulations and response surface methodology

open access: yes, 2020
This thesis is composed of two studies that demonstrate the implementation of Monte Carlo (MC) simulations and response surface methodology (RSM) to specific problems in planar and tomographic nuclear medicine imaging. In the first study, the collimator of a planar small field-of-view continuous crystal breast specific gamma camera is optimized by ...
