Critical Non-Abelian Vortex in Four Dimensions and Little String Theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
As was shown recently, non-Abelian vortex strings supported in four-dimensional ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetric QCD with the U(2) gauge group and $N_f=4$ quark multiplets (flavors) become critical superstrings.

Optical ordering of nanoparticles trapped by Laguerre-Gaussian laser modes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In earlier work, it has been established that laser-induced coupling between a pair of nanoparticles can enable the generation of novel patterns, entirely determined and controlled by the frequency, intensity, and polarization of the optical input.

Two-dimensional multi-pole solitons in nonlocal nonlinear media [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We present the experimental observation of scalar multi-pole solitons in highly nonlocal nonlinear media, including dipole-, tri-pole, quadru-pole, and necklace-type solitons, organized as arrays of out-of-phase bright spots.

Universality of Longitudinal Vortices Shedding from a Cruciform Two Circular Cylinder System in Uniform Flow

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2010
Earlier wind tunnel experiments supported by visualization in water flow carried out by the present authors showed that two types of longitudinal vortices shed periodically from a cruciform two identical circular cylinder system in uniform flow.

Unsteady Behavior of Necklace Vortex Produced by a Square Plate Protrusion

open access: yesOpen Journal of Fluid Dynamics, 2018
In this study, the unsteady behavior of necklace vortices formed in front of a square flat plate was experimentally investigated by flow visualization and PIV analysis by using a water channel. As a result, the necklace vortices started to oscillate when the Reynolds number increased beyond approximately 2000.

Odd-petal states and persistent flows in spin-orbit-coupled Bose-Einstein condensates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We study the phase diagram of a Rashba spin-orbit-coupled Bose-Einstein condensate confined in a two-dimensional toroidal trap. In the immiscible regime we find an azimuthally periodic density distribution, with the periodicity highly tuneable as a ...

Fusion of necklace-ring patterns into vortex and fundamental solitons in dissipative media

open access: yesOptics Express, 2007
We demonstrate that necklace-shaped arrays of localized spatial beams can merge into stable fundamental or vortex solitons in a generic model of laser cavities, based on the two-dimensional complex Ginzburg-Landau equation with the cubic-quintic nonlinearity.

Numerical simulation of thermal striping phenomena in a T-junction piping system for fundamental validation and uncertainty quantification by GCI estimation

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2015
Thermal striping caused by the mixing of fluids at different temperatures is one of the most important issues in the design of Sodium cooled Fast Reactors (SFRs), because it may cause high-cycle thermal fatigue in the structure and affect the structural ...

Formation of Necklace-Type Vortex System Upstream of a Gate Valve in Pipe Flow

open access: yesOpen Journal of Fluid Dynamics, 2018
A gate valve is one of the main elements of a circular pipeline, but the flow characteristics around the gate valve are hardly known. In this study, clarification of the flow field in front of the gate valve model in a pipe flow via flow visualization and PIV analysis was attempted.

Competitive localization of vortex lines and interacting bosons

open access: yes, 2005
We present a theory for the localization of three-dimensional vortex lines or two-dimensional bosons with short-ranged repulsive interaction which are competing for a single columnar defect or potential well.
