SIRT5–RAC2 Axis Drives Monocyte‐to‐Macrophage Differentiation to Promote Inflammatory Injury in Premature Ovarian Insufficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SIRT5 desuccinylates and stabilizes RAC2, activating CSF1R‐dependent signaling to drive monocyte differentiation into M0 macrophages and their polarization toward pro‐inflammatory M1 phenotypes in CTX‐induced premature ovarian insufficiency. Inhibiting the SIRT5‐RAC2 axis attenuates inflammation, reduces granulosa cell apoptosis, and preserves ...

Glycine reduces liver lipid peroxidation in neonatal hypoxia/reoxygenation-induced necrotizing enterocolitis [PDF]

open access: yesEinstein (São Paulo), 2006
Objective: To assess the protective effect of glycine in liver ofneonatal hypoxia/reoxygenation-induced necrotizing enterocolitisin rats. Methods: Forty-four (44) neonatal Wistar rats weredistributed into three groups: G1 – normal control group (n=12);G2

Engineering Immune Cell to Counteract Aging and Aging‐Associated Diseases

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review highlights a paradigm shift in which advanced immune cell therapies, initially developed for cancer, are now being harnessed to combat aging. By engineering immune cells to selectively clear senescent cells and remodel pro‐inflammatory tissue microenvironments, these strategies offer a novel and powerful approach to delay age‐related ...

Necrotizing fasciitis

open access: yesJournal of British Surgery, 1991
Abstract Ten cases of necrotizing fasciitis are reviewed. Three patients died but only two of these deaths were due to uncontrolled septicaemia. All isolated organisms were sensitive to a combination of piperacillin and ampicillin which we now regard as the initial antibiotic combination of choice.

Modeling chronic periodontitis in rats: Persistent alveolar bone loss mediated by periodontal pathogens

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Irrigation of periodontal pockets with human periopathogens, in combination with a 14‐day ligature‐induced periodontitis protocol, significantly enhances alveolar bone loss and sustains bacterial colonization for up to 28 days following ligature removal, thereby more closely replicating the chronic nature of human periodontitis compared to the ligature

Point-of-Care Ultrasound in Necrotizing Acute Pancreatitis Complicated by Perforated Ileum Due to Nonocclusive Mesenteric Ischemia

open access: yesJournal of Medical Ultrasound, 2016
Necrotizing acute pancreatitis is the most severe form of pancreatitis, and it is a potentially life-threatening condition. Its diagnosis and severity are based on radiological signs. Although computed tomography is the most used imaging tool, ultrasound

Challenges of modeling pristane‐induced lupus in non‐human primates

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in cynomolgus monkeys was modeled by two intraperitoneal injections of pristane at a dose of 3.5 mL/kg, administered at weeks 1 and 23. Serum samples from all monkeys that received pristane tested positive for antinuclear antibodies.

Serum Cytokine Profiling Differentiates Underlying Diseases in Cytokine Storm Syndrome

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Serum cytokine profiling was performed using Luminex (48 cytokines) and ELISA (5 cytokines). Assessment of key cytokines (IFN‐α, IL‐18, IL‐6, CXCL9) delineated five dominant inflammatory patterns: I, IFN‐α–dominant CSS; II, IL‐18–dominant CSS; III, IL‐6–dominant CSS; IV, IFN‐γ–dominant CSS; and V, IL‐6 & IFN‐γ intermediate CSS.

The Effect of Benralizumab and Mepolizumab on Use of Oral Glucocorticoids in Patients With Eosinophilic Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective The phase 3 MANDARA study demonstrated noninferiority of benralizumab versus mepolizumab for remission in patients with eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA). More benralizumab‐treated patients achieved complete withdrawal of oral glucocorticoids (OGCs).
