The secretion of the systemic insecticides dimethoate and phorate into nectar [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, 1968
SUMMARYIn pot experiments, root applications of dimethoate and phorate were made to plants of fuchsia, nasturtium and bean. Twenty‐five mg dimethoate applied to a 5‐in pot made nectar from fuchsia and nasturtium and nectaries of beans toxic to bees and Drosophila melanogaster.

Diurnal Dynamics of Nectar Secretion in Cucurbita maxima Duch: Implications for Effective Pollen Transfer by Japanese Wild Pollinators

open access: yesJapan Agricultural Research Quarterly: JARQ, 2021
To determine whether visits by wild pollinators correspond well with the physiological patterns of animal-pollinated crops, we investigated the diurnal dynamics of nectar secretion in the male and female flowers of cultivated kabocha squash Cucurbita ...

Nectar-Secreting Glands [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1877
I HAVE briefly described in vol. xv. of the Linnaean Society's Journal, the nectar-glands found at the base of the fronds of the brake fern (Pteris aquilina) which are visited by ants for the sake of their sweet secretion. This case seemed to me to show in a striking manner that extra-floral nectar-glands are not necessarily protective in function ...

Nectar secretion of Callistemon citrinus (Curtis) Skeels, Myrtaceae: Potential for honey production

open access: yesPlants and Environment, 2021
The honey production capacity of bee flora is used to estimate the optimum colony carrying capacity of given area that helps to harvest the best honey yield.

Relationships between Flower Opening Time, Environmental Conditions, Corolla Opening Size and Nectar Production in Five Winter Oilseed Rape (Brassica napus L.) Cultivars in China

open access: yesJournal of Apicultural Science, 2023
Oilseed rape is an economically important crop and provides a good nectar resource. In this study, the nectar secretion characteristics of five winter oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) cultivars in China were examined throughout the daytime.

Comparative analyses of the metabolite and ion concentrations in nectar, nectaries, and leaves of 36 bromeliads with different photosynthesis and pollinator types

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
Floral nectar contains mainly sugars as well as smaller amounts of amino acids and further compounds. The nectar composition varies between different plant species and it is related to the pollination type of the plant. In addition to this, other factors

Nectar production in species of the Genus galanthus L. (Amaryllidaceae) from Serbia [PDF]

open access: yesGlasnik Šumarskog Fakulteta: Univerzitet u Beogradu, 2014
As a contribution to the study of the melliferous flora of Serbia, nectar production in two species of the genus Galanthus L. (G. nivalis L., and G. elwesii Hook.) was investigated.

On the mechanisms of nectar secretion: revisited [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Botany, 2010
Models of nectar formation and exudation in multilayered nectaries with modified stomata or permeable cuticle are evaluated. In the current symplasmic model the pre-nectar moves from terminal phloem through the symplasm into the apoplasm (cell walls and intercellular spaces) with nectar formation by either granulocrine or eccrine secretion and its ...
