Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Pathological extension of prostate cancer as defined by gleason score on biopsy

open access: yesInternational Brazilian Journal of Urology, 2005
INTRODUCTION: Based on the importance of the Gleason score on the behavior of prostate adenocarcinoma, this study attempts to predict the extension of prostate adenocarcinoma pre-operatively, as defined by the Gleason score on biopsy, in individuals who ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Needle-free intradermal vaccination, an opportunity to improve commercial pig welfare

open access: yes
In-farm livestock production vaccinations are commonly delivered intramuscularly using needles. While there are alternative strategies these have been subject to little attention and limited commercialisation. One such alternative is needle-free vaccines

Prediction of pathological stage in prostate cancer through the percentage of involved fragments upon biopsy

open access: yesInternational Brazilian Journal of Urology, 2005
INTRODUCTION: The need for defining the extension of disease in patients undergoing radical prostatectomy due to prostate adenocarcinoma is a relevant factor cure in such individuals.

Liver organoids: modelling complexity in homeostasis and disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Studying liver in vitro has been challenging because simple 2D cell cultures fail to capture liver's cellular and architectural complexity. To bridge this gap, scientists increasingly use organoids, 3D liver models which better mimic liver composition and function. This review examines recent advances in liver organoid complexity and realism, discusses

Mechanical Processing of GFRP Waste into Large-Sized Pieces for Use in Concrete

open access: yesRecycling, 2018
Recycling glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composite materials has been proven to be challenging due to their high mechanical performance and high resistance to harsh chemical and thermal conditions.

Study protocol for a randomized controlled trial of a child and parent mindfulness intervention for pediatric venipuncture

open access: yesPaediatric & Neonatal Pain, 2021
Children commonly undergo painful needle procedures. Unmanaged procedural pain can have short‐ and long‐term consequences, including longer procedure times, greater distress at future procedures, and vaccine hesitancy.

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

An unusual case of self-inflicted multiple needles injuries to eye

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2013
Self-inflicted eye injuries among psychiatric patients are rare but important group of ophthalmic conditions that require close cooperation between different medical specialties to ensure optimum care of the severely disturbed patient.
