A note on The Reversed Hand in Ancient Egypt [PDF]

open access: yesمجلة الدراسات الإنسانية والأدبية
It is known that the ancient Egyptian art has lots of examples that depict the right hand identical to the left one. So, some human figures appeared as if they have two left hands.

Successful treatment of postoperative, radiation-associated wound dehiscence around tracheostomy with negative pressure wound therapy.

open access: yes, 2018
We present case report of 62-year-old man who underwent total laryngectomy, bilateral neck dissection and radiotherapy due to laryngeal cancer. After 11 months he was reoperated because of a local recurrence.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Efficacy and safety of intravenous tenecteplase thrombolysis in diffusion-weighted imaging-negative posterior circulation ischemic stroke

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology
IntroductionClear evidence supporting thrombolytic therapy in diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI)-negative posterior circulation ischemic stroke (PCIS) is lacking.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

CONSIDERATIONS ON RE-SOCIALISATION, SOCIAL REINSERTION AND RECOVERY THROUGH EDUCATION [PDF]

open access: yesChallenges of the Knowledge Society, 2019
This paper mainly aims at pointing to the criteria that make a detainee be eligible for re-socialisation. In addition to this, we distinguish between negative re-socialization, when the expected result is not obtained, and positive re-socialization ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Identity negative priming: a phenomenon of perception, recognition or selection?

open access: yes, 2012
The present study addresses the problem whether negative priming (NP) is due to information processing in perception, recognition or selection. We argue that most NP studies confound priming and perceptual similarity of prime-probe episodes and implement
