Negative Effects of Urban Sprawl

2020
We might perceive the suburbanization as a form of urbanization processes when it comes to the migration of population and their activities from the town to its background. The term urban sprawl is understood as a violent development of suburban areas, which is prevailingly related to the origination of large residential regions in the surrounding of ...

A negative contrast effect in newborns

Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, 1972
Abstract Two experiments tested whether negative reinforcement-contrast would occur in newborn humans. One group received two 5-min periods of water alternated with 5-min periods of 15% sucrose. Rate of sucking during water periods was lower than in a second group given only water through-out the 20-min session.

Negative effects of melatonin on depression

American Journal of Psychiatry, 1976
In order to test the efficacy of the pineal neurohumor melatonin on depression, the hormone was administered in varying doses to six moderately to severely depressed patients and two patients with Huntington's chorea in double-blind crossover study. Melatonin exacerbated symptoms of dysphoria in these patients, as well as causing a loss of sleep and ...

Effect of handling on positive and negative contrast effects

Developmental Psychobiology, 1980
AbstractThe effects of early handling on the exhibition of positive and negative contrast effects were investigated. Over two 4‐day testing sessions, animals were given alternating 1‐min access periods to 2 bottles containing either 32 or 4% sucrose solutions. Measures of lick rate and latency to switch bottles revealed that both handled and nonhandled

Effectiveness of Cefotaxime in Gram-negative Meningitis

Neurosurgery, 1984
Abstract We treated 12 adult patients who had gram-negative bacillary meningitis with cefotaxime administered intravenously at a dose of 2 g every 4 hours. The etiological organisms included Haemophilus influenzae (3 cases), Serratia marcescens (3 cases), Klebsiella pneumoniae (3 cases), Escherichia coli (2 cases), and Enterobacter (1 ...

On a negative electrorheological effect

Journal of Electrostatics, 1995
Abstract After recalling the primary role of the conduction properties of solid particles and suspending liquid in promoting the electrorheological effect, we examine the case of suspensions for which the conductivity of solid particles is much smaller than that of the carrying liquid. A negative effect is found, i.e. a decrease in apparent viscosity

A Negative Priority Effect

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1980
On multiple tests of free recall increased study time for selected items near the middle of a presentation list resulted in both a significantly higher level of recall and a later reproduction of these items during recall (negative priority effect).

Role of Negative Effective Mass in Negative Resistance

Physical Review Letters, 1959
Experiments on cyclotron resonance of negative-mass carriers in Ge have been reported. The distribution of carriers is not an equilibrium distribution, since the carriers were produced by optical excitation partly from acceptors and partly across the gap.

The negative repetition effect.

Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition, 2013
A fundamental property of human memory is that repetition enhances memory. Peterson and Mulligan (2012) recently documented a surprising negative repetition effect, in which participants who studied a list of cue-target pairs twice recalled fewer targets than a group who studied the pairs only once.
