Negative predictive value of sonography and mammography in patients with focal breast pain

open access: yesClinical Imaging, 2005
The purpose of this study was to determine the negative predictive value of mammography and sonography in a population of patients with focal breast pain referred for imaging evaluation. Eighty-six consecutive patients with focal breast pain in the absence of a breast mass were retrospectively identified from an imaging database.

Comparing WHO C-Model generated C-Section probabilities to actual delivery outcomes in a tertiary care centre [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background: A model which takes into account several relevant factors and gives the probability of C-Section in a woman would have the advantage of preparing for such an event.

KRAS and GNAS mutations in cell‐free DNA and in circulating epithelial cells in patients with intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms—an observational pilot study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that KRAS and GNAS mutations are more prevalent in patients with resected intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN) compared to those under clinical surveillance. GNAS mutations significantly differ between the two patient cohorts, indicating that their absence may serve as a potential biomarker to support conservative ...

Dielectric photonic crystal as medium with negative electric permittivity and magnetic permeability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We show that a two-dimensional photonic crystal (PC) made from a non-magnetic dielectric is a left-handed material in the sense defined by Veselago. Namely, it has negative values of both the electric permittivity $\epsilon$ and the magnetic permeability $\mu$ in some frequency range. This follows from a recently proven general theorem.

On‐treatment dynamics of circulating extracellular vesicles in the first‐line setting of patients with advanced non‐small cell lung cancer: the LEXOVE prospective study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LEXOVE prospective study evaluated plasma cell‐free extracellular vesicle (cfEV) dynamics using Bradford assay and dynamic light scattering in metastatic non‐small cell lung cancer patients undergoing first‐line treatments, correlating a ∆cfEV < 20% with improved median progression‐free survival in responders versus non‐responders.

Mechanical Strain can Switch the Sign of Quantum Capacitance from Positive to Negative [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Quantum capacitance is a fundamental quantity that can directly reveal many-body interactions among electrons and is expected to play a critical role in nanoelectronics. One of many tantalizing recent physical revelations about quantum capacitance is that it can posses a negative value, hence allowing for the possibility of enhancing the overall ...
