Non‐Rigid 3D Shape Correspondences: From Foundations to Open Challenges and Opportunities

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Estimating correspondences between deformed shape instances is a long‐standing problem in computer graphics; numerous applications, from texture transfer to statistical modelling, rely on recovering an accurate correspondence map. Many methods have thus been proposed to tackle this challenging problem from varying perspectives, depending on ...

Evaluating the Perceptual Space of Surface Noise for Visualization

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Surface noise provides a geometric alternative to color for encoding scalar information on surfaces, yet its perceptual characteristics remain insufficiently understood. We present a systematic investigation of how variations in noise amplitude and frequency are perceived when applied to 3D surfaces. Across three online perceptual studies with

A new method for evaluating the normal rake angle and inclination angle on medical needles

open access: yes, 2017
Hollow needles are the most frequently used medical equipment. The design of a hollow needle that best enables medical procedures requires a better understanding of needle tip geometry.

Regional and local divergence in welfare provision in England and Wales, 1776–1815

open access: yesThe Economic History Review, EarlyView.
Abstract This article uses the township‐level data on welfare expenditure and provision gathered by parish officers in England and Wales at three points between 1776 and 1815 to illuminate regional and local differences during the period. These data have been linked to geographic information system (GIS) mapping systems, facilitating the mapping of ...

Collective Nostalgia Widens the Gap Between Obsessive and Harmonious Passion in Support for Political Violence

open access: yesJournal of Applied Social Psychology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Collective nostalgia—a longing for a group's shared past—carries both a sweet pull toward ingroup connection and a sour potential for outgroup hostility. We propose that these divergent associations depend on the form of passion people hold for their political cause. Drawing on the dualistic model of passion, we distinguished obsessive passion,

Evidence Gathering Under Competitive and Noncompetitive Rewards

open access: yesJournal of Economics &Management Strategy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Reward schemes may affect not only agents' effort but also their incentives to gather information in order to reduce the riskiness of the productive activity. In a laboratory experiment using a novel task, we find that the relationship between incentives and evidence gathering depends critically on the availability of information about peers ...
