Tool Life in High Speed Turning with Negative Rake Angle
The present work studies some aspects of turning process applied on mild steel using cermets tools at high speed cutting (1000mm/min) by using negative rake angle (0 to-12). The influence of increasing the cutting speed and negative rake angle on flank tool wear, cutting forces, feeding forces and tool temperature were analyzed.

Tool-chip friction in machining with a large negative rake angle tool
Wear, 2005A fundamental and quantitative analysis of the tool-chip friction helps to better understand the mechanism of chip formation and other complex phenomena in machining with a large negative rake angle tool. Built upon Lee and Shaffer's model, this paper presents an analytical slip-line approach to investigate how the negative tool rake angle and the ...

Simulation of Tool Life for Ceramic with Negative Rake Angle Using Neural Network
The current work presents the simulation of tool life in high speed Hard Turning (HSHT) of AISI 4340 hardened steel using artificial neural networks. An experimental investigation was carried out using ceramic cutting tools, composed approximately of Al2O3 (70%) and TiC (30%) on AISI 4340 heat treated to a hardness of 60 HRC.

Extreme negative rake angle technique for single point diamond nano-cutting of silicon
Precision Engineering, 2001Experiments were conducted to evaluate cuts made with the rake face of the tool and the clearance face. The technique involved cutting in the corresponding opposite directions, i.e., forward with the rake face and backward with the clearance face. Cutting of single crystal silicon with both the rake and the clearance face resulted in a smooth ductile ...

Since the uncut chip thickness is comparable to the cutting edge radius, in fact, micro cutting is a negative rake angle cutting process. The minimum chip thickness has great effect on the cutting process. This paper presents an experimental investigation of specific cutting energy and surface quality based on the negative effective rake angle in micro

Adiabatic shear in chip formation with negative rake angle
International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 2005The mechanics of chip formation in grinding is investigated based on thermo-elastic-plastic finite element simulations of orthogonal cutting with a large negative rake abrasive-grits. The modeling is coupled with temperature and strain-rate-dependent flow stress characteristics of a work material SK-5 (0.93%C carbon steel). The shape of chip calculated
