Impact of negative sequence current injection by wind power plants
2013 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2013This paper presents an analysis of the impact from negative sequence current injection by wind power plants in power systems under steady-state and short-term unbalanced conditions, including faults. The separate positive and negative sequence current control capability of the grid-side converters of full scale converter type wind turbines may be ...

Grid Support During Asymmetrical Faults using Negative Sequence Current Injection
2019 IEEE 4th International Future Energy Electronics Conference (IFEEC), 2019This paper investigates the effect of injecting negative sequence reactive current into the grid in case of asymmetrical faults. In such conditions, the negative sequence voltage will increase and may cause instability in the system or damage to some equipment such as three phase rotating machines. Hence, the aim of this study is to support the grid by

Negative Sequence Current Control in Wind Power Plants With VSC-HVDC Connection
IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy, 2012Large offshore wind power plants may have multi-MW wind turbine generators (WTG) equipped with full-scale converters (FSC) and voltage source converter (VSC) based high voltaage direct-current (HVDC) transmission for gridconnection. The power electronic converters in theWTG-FSC and the VSC-HVDC allow fast current control in the offshore grid.

Evaluation of negative-sequence-current compensators for high-speed electric railways
2016 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2016This paper evaluates three alternative topologies for a static compensator (StatCom), suitable to eliminate the negative-sequence currents in a railway system. The compensator is placed in a transformer substation, which feeds two separate sections of the catenary.

A Method to Reduce the Negative Sequence Current in Electrical Equipments
IEEE Latin America Transactions, 2016A multiphase optimal power flow method for limiting unbalances of currents in equipments using reactive compensation is proposed in this paper. The equipment modeling is based on current injection method in rectangular coordinates. The method was implemented and the proposed computational tool was developed with Matlab® and Lingo® softwares.

Real-Time Detecting Method of Negative Sequence Current in Traction System
2007 8th International Conference on Electronic Measurement and Instruments, 2007When electric locomotive moves in power system, it will produce negative sequence current, which will threat the electric equipments and the power system security operation. So it is very important to measure the value of negative sequence current rapidly and exactly. This paper introduces one new kind of method to measure the negative sequence current.

Negative Sequence Current in Megawatt Hydro Generators at Uprated Unbalanced Loads
2018 IEEE International Conference on Power Electronics, Drives and Energy Systems (PEDES), 2018The allowable negative sequence current (NSC) in large generator is 10% of its rated current as per IEC 60034-1 standard, irrespective of its rotor arrangement. This paper scrutinizes the NSC capability of a 250 MW salient pole hydro-generator following an unbalance at rated and above rated loads.

Fault Detection During Asymmetrical Power Swing Using Superimposed Negative Sequence Current
Arabian Journal for Science and Engineering, 2019Power swing phenomenon occurred during single-pole auto-reclosing (SPAR) period is called asymmetrical power swing. During symmetrical power swing, power swing blocking is used to block distance relay to avoid the selectivity property. Therefore, fault detection is more challenging during asymmetrical power swing since open-pole condition introduces ...

Wind turbine negative sequence current control and its effect on power system protection
2013 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2013This paper focuses on the control of the negative sequence component of the wind turbine (WT) short circuit current. In many applications the negative sequence component is suppressed partially or entirely. Full negative sequence current suppression control would reduce the line-to-line short circuit current to the level of the load current or even to ...
