Compensation for the negative-sequence currents of electric railway based on SVC

2008 3rd IEEE Conference on Industrial Electronics and Applications, 2008
As a classic unbalanced load, the traction engines of the electric railways result in negative-sequence currents(NSC) in power systems, which cannot be ignored in most cases. SVC is considered as an effective method to reduce or even eliminate NSC, as well as some other power quality problems, such as reactive power compensation.

Negative sequence current compensation for stator shorted turn detection in induction motors

IECON 2012 - 38th Annual Conference on IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2012
Negative sequence current analysis is useful for shorted turn detection in induction motors. It can produce fast and reliable monitoring results using a simple measurement technique. However, it is sensitive to disturbances such as sensor calibration, inherent machine asymmetry and supply voltage unbalances.

Evaluation of negative-sequence-current compensators for high-speed electric railways

2016 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2016
This paper evaluates three alternative topologies for a static compensator (StatCom), suitable to eliminate the negative-sequence currents in a railway system. The compensator is placed in a transformer substation, which feeds two separate sections of the catenary.

Negative Sequence Current in Megawatt Hydro Generators at Uprated Unbalanced Loads

2018 IEEE International Conference on Power Electronics, Drives and Energy Systems (PEDES), 2018
The allowable negative sequence current (NSC) in large generator is 10% of its rated current as per IEC 60034-1 standard, irrespective of its rotor arrangement. This paper scrutinizes the NSC capability of a 250 MW salient pole hydro-generator following an unbalance at rated and above rated loads.

Asymmetric Overload of Synchronous Generators with Negative Sequence Currents at Geomagnetic Disturbances

2020 International Conference on Electrotechnical Complexes and Systems (ICOECS), 2020
It is demonstrated that at the occurrence of geomagnetic disturbances the value of quasi-direct current acting on a generator step-up transformer depends on the type and number of blocks "synchronous generator – generator step-up transformer" as parts of a power plant, phase wire parameters, geographic direction of overhead power lines extending away ...

Compensation of harmonics and negative sequence components in line current and voltage by a SuperSMES

IEEE Transactions on Appiled Superconductivity, 1999
A SuperSMES is composed of inverters connected in series to a power system and another inverter in parallel, and a superconducting magnet for energy storage. It is a universal power quality controller because of its multi-purpose ability. The application presented here aims at a general filtering system in large industrial power consumers.

Real-Time Detecting Method of Negative Sequence Current in Traction System

2007 8th International Conference on Electronic Measurement and Instruments, 2007
When electric locomotive moves in power system, it will produce negative sequence current, which will threat the electric equipments and the power system security operation. So it is very important to measure the value of negative sequence current rapidly and exactly. This paper introduces one new kind of method to measure the negative sequence current.

The design of negative sequence current monitoring instrument based on DSP and ARM

2011 International Conference on Electric Information and Control Engineering, 2011
The negative sequence current monitoring instrument named NSCM can monitor the negative sequence current, which affect the safety and stability of the generator directly according to the criterion when generator drive unbalanced load. The hardware structure of the NSCM and the algorithm of the negative sequence based on average filtering are expressed ...

Using negative sequence current to detect line-to-line faults in transformers

2016 IEEE Pulp, Paper & Forest Industries Conference (PPFIC), 2016
Faults inside the primary 15KV windings of transformers usually begin as line-to-line faults, not involving ground, and with current magnitudes far lower than three phase bolted faults or the time-over-current or instantaneous feeder circuit settings.
