Compensation for the negative-sequence currents of electric railway based on SVC
2008 3rd IEEE Conference on Industrial Electronics and Applications, 2008As a classic unbalanced load, the traction engines of the electric railways result in negative-sequence currents(NSC) in power systems, which cannot be ignored in most cases. SVC is considered as an effective method to reduce or even eliminate NSC, as well as some other power quality problems, such as reactive power compensation.

It can produce fast and reliable monitoring results using a simple measurement technique. However, it is sensitive to disturbances such as sensor calibration, inherent machine asymmetry and supply voltage unbalances.

2016 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2016This paper evaluates three alternative topologies for a static compensator (StatCom), suitable to eliminate the negative-sequence currents in a railway system. The compensator is placed in a transformer substation, which feeds two separate sections of the catenary.

This paper scrutinizes the NSC capability of a 250 MW salient pole hydro-generator following an unbalance at rated and above rated loads.
