Distribution of Electrical Resistivity in Single Carbon Fiber Filaments and Its Correlation With Tensile Modulus

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A statistical framework is applied to quantify the distribution of electrical resistivity among individual filaments of two commercially available carbon fiber types. Correlations between filament resistivity, tensile modulus, and diameter are examined and complemented by TEM analysis to provide new insight into filament‐level variability relevant for ...

Engineering Deformation and Failure in Diamond Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Lattices via 3D Wall‐Thickness Grading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The work demonstrates that strategic wall‐thickness grading in diamond triply periodic minimal surface lattices enables precise tuning of deformation and failure behavior under compression. Different gradation patterns guide how and where the structure collapses, improving energy absorption or promoting controlled brittle failure.

Torsional negative stiffness mechanism by thin strips

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, 2019
: Negative stiffness mechanisms have great application potential in different fields, such as vibration isolation, energy absorption and mesh antenna unfolding. Although numerous compliant mechanisms with negative stiffness features have been implemented

Van der Waals Heterostructures Based on Allotropes of Phosphorene and MoSe2

open access: yes, 2017
The van der Waals heterostructures of allotropes of phosphorene (${\alpha}$- and $\beta-P$) with MoSe2 (H-, T-, ZT- and SO-MoSe2) are investigated in the framework of state-of-the-art density functional theory. The semiconducting heterostructures, $\beta$

3D‐Printed Serial Snap‐Through Architectures for Programmable Mechanical Response

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A serial snap‐through architecture is realized using compact 3D‐printed von Mises truss units arranged in a staged cascade. Their geometry and boundary conditions program multistage mechanical responses with plateaux and re‐hardening regimes. An inverted‐compliance model predicts these behaviors and enables analytical design of programmable force ...

Dynamics of 1D mass–spring system with a negative stiffness spring realized by magnets: Theoretical and experimental study

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, 2017
Realization of negative stiffness (NS) in damping low frequency acoustic and mechanical vibration is relevant in engineering applications. In this work, assemblage of two repelling magnets was used to produce negative magnetic spring (NMS). A mass–spring

Stiffness pathologies in discrete granular systems: bifurcation, neutral equilibrium, and instability in the presence of kinematic constraints

open access: yes, 2018
The paper develops the stiffness relationship between the movements and forces among a system of discrete interacting grains. The approach is similar to that used in structural analysis, but the stiffness matrix of granular material is inherently non ...
