Autoplaquing in Neisseria gonorrhoeae [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1985
Irregularly shaped autoplaques were observed on a lawn of two different strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Autoplaquing occurred on gonococcal genetic medium lacking arginine and was noninducible on complete gonococcal genetic medium. The cell density, incubation temperature, and agar base influenced autoplaquing.

Bacterial Outer Membrane Vesicles in Potentiating Cancer Vaccines: Progress and Prospects

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bacterial outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) have emerged as versatile platforms for cancer vaccine development owing to their intrinsic immunostimulatory properties and high engineering flexibility. This review summarizes OMV biology, immune mechanisms, and engineering strategies that enhance vaccine efficacy, discusses key translational challenges, and ...

Identification of ceftriaxone-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae FC428 clone and isolates harboring a novel mosaic penA gene in Chengdu in 2019–2020

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical Microbiology and Antimicrobials, 2023
Background Antimicrobial resistance in gonorrhea has become a growing global public health burden. Neisseria gonorrhoeae isolates with resistance to ceftriaxone, the last remaining first-line option, represent an emerging threat of untreatable gonorrhea.

Acclimation to Nutritional Immunity and Metal Intoxication Requires Zinc, Manganese, and Copper Homeostasis in the Pathogenic Neisseriae

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2022
Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Neisseria meningitidis are human-specific pathogens in the Neisseriaceae family that can cause devastating diseases. Although both species inhabit mucosal surfaces, they cause dramatically different diseases.

Phenotypic and genotypic characterisation of Neisseria gohorrhoeae isolates from New Zealand with reduced susceptibility to ceftriaxone : a thesis submitted to the College of Health in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the Master of Science in Microbiology at Massey University, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Objectives Currently, ceftriaxone is the last remaining drug recommended for empirical treatment of gonorrhoea. Neisseria gonorrhoeae with reduced susceptibility to ceftriaxone have been isolated worldwide in countries such as Japan, France, Spain ...

Autolysis of Neisseria gonorrhoeae [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1975
Physiological conditions that would provide maximal rates of autolysis of Neisseria gonorrhoeae were examined. Autolysis was found to occur over a broad pH range with the optimum at pH 9.0 IN 0.05 M tris(hydroxymethyl)amino-methane-maleate buffer. The temperature optimum was found to be 40 C.

Metabolism‐Based Biomarkers for Rapid Phenotypic Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Metabolic differences emerging after antibiotic exposure provide rapid phenotypic signals of susceptibility and resistance. This review summarizes metabolic biomarkers for rapid phenotypic AST, associated with nutrient uptake, respiratory activity, metabolic reprogramming, and enzymatic function. ABSTRACT The accelerating global crisis of antimicrobial
