Metabarcoding of Sediment eDNA Uncovers Ecological Gradients and Biodiversity in Philippine Mangroves

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 8, Issue 3, May–June 2026.
Community diversity metrics revealed a clear ecological gradient, with the highest diversity observed in recolonized mature stands, intermediate in the natural stands, and lowest in the restored stands. Taxonomic profiles varied with mangrove stand, age, and zonation.

Continuous Monoculture Shapes Root and Rhizosphere Fungal Communities of Corn and Soybean in Soybean Cyst Nematode-Infested Soil

open access: yesPhytobiomes Journal, 2019
The rhizosphere effect shapes microbial communities around and within plant roots and may lead to the enrichment of fungi involved in both positive and negative plant-soil feedbacks.

Enhancing Stored Wheat Shelf Life: Advances in Storage Technologies, Integrated Pest Management, and Climate‐Responsive Approaches

open access: yesFood and Energy Security, Volume 15, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
ABSTRACT Recent advances in agricultural production and storage systems have contributed to a significant enhancement in annual wheat production and preservation, aimed at satisfying increasing consumer demands. Despite such potential developments, there are still significant post‐harvest losses in stored wheat, induced by destructive pests, grain ...

In vitro interaction of Brazilian strains of the Nematode-trapping fungi Arthrobotrys spp. on Panagrellus sp. and Cooperia punctata

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2001
In vitro tests were carried out to verify the activity of 26 Brazilian isolates of predatory fungi of the genus Arthrobotrys on a free-living nematode (Panagrellus sp.) and on infective larvae of Cooperia punctata, a parasitic gastrointestinal nematode ...

Anisotropic community turn‐over at habitat edges informs on assembly drivers: simulation and empirical test on soil macrofauna

open access: yesOikos, Volume 2026, Issue 5, May 2026.
Biodiversity dynamics in heterogeneous landscapes is the result of a complex interplay between movement processes of organisms within and between habitat patches, and niche filtering processes due to spatially varying environmental conditions. Disentangling the relative influences of these different processes on community assembly and dynamics is a ...

Mycobiome of Cysts of the Soybean Cyst Nematode Under Long Term Crop Rotation

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
The soybean cyst nematode (SCN), Heterodera glycines Ichinohe (Phylum Nematoda), is a major pathogen of soybean. It causes substantial yield losses worldwide and is difficult to control because the cyst protects the eggs which can remain viable for ...

Incorporating soil biological and functional attributes to advance ecological restoration

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 3, Page 735-746, May 2026.
Earth is currently experiencing a mass extinction crisis, predominantly driven by anthropogenic activities, with land use change causing widespread loss and degradation of native ecosystems and indigenous species. There is an urgent need to halt this trend and restore degraded habitat to preserve biodiversity and protect threatened plants and animals ...

Evolution of parasitism in nematode-trapping fungi.

open access: yesJournal of nematology, 2011
We are studying the evolution of parasitism in a group of soil-living ascomycetes that can grow as saprophytes as well as parasites by forming special morphological structures called traps. Analyses of 18S ribosomal DNA sequences have shown that these fungi form a monophyletic and isolated clade among the ascomycetes.

A systematic review on research trends and commercialised entomopathogenic nematodes: A global perspective

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, Volume 28, Issue 2, Page 298-313, May 2026.
Out of 136 identified EPNs, only 18 (8 Steinernema and 6 Heterorhabditis) are commercialised globally, highlighting a major gap between discovery and application. High production costs and inconsistent field efficacy are the leading obstacles to the widespread commercialisation of EPN‐based biocontrol products.
