Theory for island induced neoclassical toroidal plasma viscosity in tokamaks
Error fields and resistive magnetohydrodynamic modes are ubiquitous in real tokamaks. They break the toroidal symmetry in | B | in tokamaks. Here, B is the magnetic field.

Observation of Plasma Toroidal-Momentum Dissipation by Neoclassical Toroidal Viscosity
Physical Review Letters, 2006Dissipation of plasma toroidal angular momentum is observed in the National Spherical Torus Experiment due to applied nonaxisymmetric magnetic fields and their plasma-induced increase by resonant field amplification and resistive wall mode destabilization. The measured decrease of the plasma toroidal angular momentum profile is compared to calculations

Intrinsic plasma rotation determined by neoclassical toroidal plasma viscosity in tokamaks
Intrinsic toroidal plasma rotation due to the neoclassical toroidal plasma viscosity (NTV) effect induced by a three-dimensional helical magnetic field ripple in tokamaks is investigated in this paper. The intrinsic rotation is determined self-consistently by searching for the roots of the ambipolarity constraint, after evaluation of the particle ...

Modelling of the neoclassical toroidal plasma viscosity torque in tokamaks
Neoclassical toroidal plasma viscosity (NTV) torque induced by non-axisymmetric magnetic perturbation in the collisionless regimes in tokamaks is modelled by solving the bounce-averaged drift kinetic equation numerically. The detailed comparison between the numerical and the analytic solutions of NTV is discussed in this paper.

A Model for the Neoclassical Toroidal Viscosity Effect on Edge Plasma Toroidal Rotation
Contributions To Plasma Physics, 2013AbstractA semianalytic expression for the edge plasma angular toroidal rotation frequency that includes the neoclassical toroidal viscosity braking influence is obtained. Based on the model presented in a previous paper [I.G. Miron, Contrib. Plasma Phys.

Parallel viscosity‐driven neoclassical fluxes in the banana regime in nonsymmetric toroidal plasmas
Physics of Fluids, 1986Analytic expressions for the parallel viscosity-driven neoclassical fluxes in the banana regime in arbitrary nonsymmetric toroidal plasmas are derived without considering boundary layer effects. They can be evaluated numerically if the Fourier decomposition of the strength of the magnetic field ‖B‖ is known.

An approximate analytic expression for neoclassical toroidal plasma viscosity in tokamaks
Nuclear Fusion, 2010An approximate analytic expression for neoclassical toroidal plasma viscosity in tokamaks that have error fields or magnetohydrodynamic activities is presented. The expression smoothly joins transport fluxes or plasma viscosity in all the known collisionality regimes derived from the solution of the bounce averaged drift kinetic equation and should be ...

The effects of finite gradient B drift are included in the collisional boundary layer analysis to improve the accuracy of the neoclassical toroidal plasma viscosity in tokamaks that have error fields or magnetohydrodynamic activities present. Depending on the sign of the electric charge of the species and that of the radial electric field, the effects ...
