Neoclassical toroidal plasma viscosity in the low collisionality regime for tokamaks
Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 2008A theoretical model for the neoclassical toroidal plasma viscosity for tokamaks resulting from the symmetry breaking magnetic field perturbation caused by the collisionless detrapping/retrapping mechanism is presented. The results of the model are valid when the width of the collisional boundary layer is narrower than the width of the layer of the ...

Effect of Neoclassical Toroidal Viscosity on Error-Field Penetration Thresholds in Tokamak Plasmas
Physical Review Letters, 2007A model for field-error penetration is developed that includes nonresonant as well as the usual resonant field-error effects. The nonresonant components cause a neoclassical toroidal viscous torque that keeps the plasma rotating at a rate comparable to the ion diamagnetic frequency.

Bounce-transit and drift resonance is one of the resonances in tokamaks with broken toroidal symmetry. It plays an important role in the wave-particle interactions. The nonlinear consequence of the resonance is the nonlinear particle trapping in the magnetic well, created by the radial drift motion resulting from the perturbed magnetic fields.

Numerical validation of the refined formula of neoclassical toroidal plasma viscosity in tokamaks
Nuclear Fusion, 2013Neoclassical toroidal plasma viscosity (NTV) theory in collisionless regimes in tokamaks has been well developed in the past. The NTV evaluated from the connected formula developed by Shaing et al (2010 Nucl. Fusion 50 025020) was in good agreement with the numerical results in most cases.

AbstractThis paper reports the Monte‐Carlo calculation of the neoclassical diffusion and viscosity coefficients with the incompressible E × B drift. A recently developed Monte‐Carlo code, based on the Einstein‐Helfand relation, is extended for this purpose.

An Eulerian approach to treat the bounce–transit and precession drift resonance in tokamaks is developed by expanding the poloidal angle dependence in terms of a Jacobian elliptic function in the low collisionality regime instead of integrating along the unperturbed particle trajectories.
