[Neoehrlichiosis has entered the Stockholm region].

The number of cases diagnosed with neoehrlichiosis in Stockholm has increased over the last years. PCR analysis is needed for the detection of the intracellular bacterium Neoehrlichia mikurensis. The real number of cases in the area is unknown since the specific PCR for N mikurensis is not routinely included in the workup for unknown fever in Stockholm.

Neoehrlichiosis is a new tick-borne infection

Neoeherlichiosis is an emerging tick-borne infection causing disease in individuals with inadequate B-cell responses because of haematologic cancer or treatment with B-cell depletion therapies such as rituximab. The infection has recently been found as a cause of prolonged fever among several patients receiving rituximab in Denmark.

This thesis is a study of the tick-borne pathogen Neoehrlichia (N.) mikurensis that causes the infectious disease neoehrlichiosis in humans. The disease affects both individuals with competent and suppressed immune defense with the majority of the affected being immunosuppressed.
