Surfactant‐Enhanced Electrospun Nanofiber Filters for Efficient Viral and Bacterial Inactivation
In this work, electrospun polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibrous filters functionalized with surfactants (CTAB, CPC, and SDS) were developed for air filtration applications. The PAN nanofiber mats enable efficient particulate matter capture while simultaneously providing antimicrobial and antiviral activity against bacteria (E. coli and S.

Plasmakristall‐4 Experiment: 10 Years of Operation in Orbit
ABSTRACT Plasmakristall‐4 (PK‐4) is a microgravity complex plasma laboratory operated for 10 years on board the International Space Station. Its main purpose is the particle‐resolved investigation of generic condensed matter phenomena using strongly coupled suspensions of microparticles immersed in low‐pressure gas‐discharge plasmas.

Vesicularity, bubble formation and noble gas fractionation during MORB degassing
The objective of this study is to use molecular dynamics simulation (MD) to evaluate the vesicularity and noble gas fractionation, and to shed light on bubble formation during MORB degassing.

Selective plane illumination (SPI) is combined with SERS spectral imaging to reduce background, improve image contrast, and enable improved spectroscopy from molecules on the surface of nanoparticles. This approach provides improved imaging and spectroscopy from nanoparticles in complex environments, such as biological cells.

Preattentive Texture Segmentation and Grouping by the Boundary Contour System [PDF]
An improved Boundary Contour System (BCS) neural network model of preattentive vision is applied to two images that produce strong "pop-out" of emergent groupings in humans.

Due to the constraints of limited effort and sampling error, observed species interaction networks are an imperfect representation of the ‘true' underlying community. Link prediction methods allow us to construct a potentially more complete representation of a given empirical network by guiding targeted sampling of predicted links, as well as offer ...

Linking Visual Cortex to Visual Perception: An Alternative to the Gestalt Bubble [PDF]
Lehar's lively discussion builds on a critique of neural models of vision that is incorrect in its general and specific claims. He espouses a Gestalt perceptual approach, rather than one consistent with the "objective neurophysiological state of the ...
