Neonatal Sepsis [PDF]

open access: yesSiSli Etfal Hastanesi Tip Bulteni / The Medical Bulletin of Sisli Hospital, 2020
Neonatal sepsis is associated with severe morbidity and mortality in the neonatal period. Clinical manifestations range from subclinical infection to severe local or systemic infection. Neonatal sepsis is divided into three groups as early-onset neonatal sepsis, late-onset neonatal sepsis and very late-onset neonatal sepsis according to the time of the

Neonatal stroke in premature neonates

open access: yesSeminars in Perinatology, 2021
There are many neuro-imaging studies on the presence of brain lesions in the preterm infant, using cranial ultrasound (cUS) and/or term equivalent age MRI (TEA-MRI). These studies however tend to focus on germinal matrix-intraventricular hemorrhage (GMH-IVH) and white matter injury.

Maternal and Neonatal Morbidity and Mortality Among Pregnant Women With and Without COVID-19 Infection

open access: yesJAMA pediatrics, 2021
This cohort study assesses the association between COVID-19 and maternal and neonatal outcomes in pregnant women with COVID-19 diagnosis compared with concomitantly enrolled pregnant women without COVID-19 diagnosis.

Phenotypic continuum of NFU1‐related disorders

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, Volume 9, Issue 12, Page 2025-2035, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Bi‐allelic variants in Iron–Sulfur Cluster Scaffold (NFU1) have previously been associated with multiple mitochondrial dysfunctions syndrome 1 (MMDS1) characterized by early‐onset rapidly fatal leukoencephalopathy. We report 19 affected individuals from 10 independent families with ultra‐rare bi‐allelic NFU1 missense variants associated with a

Effects of pregnancy on neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder and predictors of related attacks

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, Volume 9, Issue 12, Page 1918-1925, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Objective Our study aimed to investigate the influence of pregnancy on the course of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) and to explore the independent predictors of pregnancy‐related attacks. Methods We performed a retrospective study of patients with NMOSD based on the Wingerchuk 2006 or the revised Wingerchuk 2015 criteria ...

Neonatal EEG graded for severity of background abnormalities in hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy [PDF]

open access: yesSci Data 10, 129 (2023), 2022
This report describes a set of neonatal electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings graded according to the severity of abnormalities in the background pattern. The dataset consists of 169 hours of multichannel EEG from 53 neonates recorded in a neonatal intensive care unit.

Magnetothermal Modulation of Calcium‐Dependent Nerve Growth

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 32, Issue 50, December 9, 2022., 2022
An approach to promoting axonal growth by recruiting calcium‐dependent processes is presented via leveraging of the heat‐sensitive ion channel TRPV1, robustly expressed in the peripheral nervous system. TRPV1 is activated by the heat dissipated by magnetic nanoparticles upon exposure to weak remotely applied alternating magnetic fields.

Global incidence and mortality of neonatal sepsis: a systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesArchives of Disease in Childhood, 2021
Background Neonates are at major risk of sepsis, but data on neonatal sepsis incidence are scarce. We aimed to assess the incidence and mortality of neonatal sepsis worldwide. Methods We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis.

A Conductive Bioengineered Cardiac Patch for Myocardial Infarction Treatment by Improving Tissue Electrical Integrity

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 12, Issue 1, January 2, 2023., 2023
A new type of porous conductive scaffold (SP50) is developed. An engineered cardiac patch (ECP) with considerable electroactivity is constructed based on the biocompatible SP50. SP50 ECP can attenuate left ventricular remodeling, improve heart function, and reduce the susceptibility of myocardial infarction rats to arrhythmias by improving cardiac ...

SmartArm: Suturing Feasibility of a Surgical Robotic System on a Neonatal Chest Model [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Medical Robotics and Bionics, vol. 3, no. 1, pp. 253-256, Feb. 2021, 2021
Commercially available surgical-robot technology currently addresses many surgical scenarios for adult patients. This same technology cannot be used to the benefit of neonate patients given the considerably smaller workspace. Medically relevant procedures regarding neonate patients include minimally invasive surgery to repair congenital esophagus ...
