Role of mitochondria in neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy [PDF]

open access: yes
Neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, an important cause of death as well as long-term disability in survivors, is caused by oxygen and glucose deprivation, and limited blood flow.

Ophthalmic artery Doppler as potential surrogate marker of angiogenic imbalance in near‐term pregnancy

open access: yesUltrasound in Obstetrics &Gynecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives First, to evaluate whether the ratio of soluble fms‐like tyrosine kinase‐1 to placental growth factor (sFlt‐1/PlGF) is associated with hemodynamic changes in ophthalmic artery (OA) Doppler in near‐term pregnancy. Second, to assess the performance of OA Doppler to rule in and rule out angiogenic factor imbalance.

The Performance of Selective Screening Ultrasound to Detect the Small‐for‐Gestational‐Age Foetus: A Prospective Cohort Study Nested Within the DESiGN Randomised Control Trial

open access: yesBJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics &Gynaecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Evidence on the performance of foetal growth ultrasound parameters to detect the Small‐for‐Gestational‐Age (SGA) foetus for a selective cohort is limited. We report the performance of estimated foetal weight under the 10th percentile (EFW < 10th) at the last selective screening ultrasound to detect SGA based on gestational age of ...

Antenatal Prediction of Shoulder Dystocia and Birth Trauma Using Routine Maternal and Ultrasound Variables: Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesBJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics &Gynaecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To develop antenatal prediction models for shoulder dystocia and birth trauma using routinely collected maternal and sonographic variables. Design Retrospective cohort study. Setting Single tertiary referral centre in the UK. Population or Sample All singleton term liveborn pregnancies delivered between January 2016 and November 2024

Impact of a Structured Caesarean Reduction Strategy on Perinatal Outcomes: A Retrospective Ecological Time‐Trend Study

open access: yesBJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics &Gynaecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate the long‐term impact of a structured, multidisciplinary CS reduction strategy in a high‐complexity Italian hospital. Design Retrospective ecological time‐trend study. Setting Tertiary obstetric care Italian centre. Sample 28 577 deliveries, ≥ 22 weeks' gestation, from 2014 to 2024 were analysed.

Priming of labor with tafoxiparin in nulliparous term pregnant women with unripe cervix—Proof‐of‐concept and dose‐finding results from a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
This study shows that tafoxiparin 300 mg can increase the rate of cervical ripening and the likelihood of spontaneous onset of labor, while also reducing the duration of labor in women achieving spontaneous onset of labor. The favorable safety profile of tafoxiparin suggests suitability for routine clinical use, including home administration.

Fertility outcomes and ovarian function recovery after anti‐NMDAR encephalitis: A retrospective cohort study

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
Acute hypothalamic–pituitary–ovarian axis suppression is common in anti‐NMDAR encephalitis, yet ovarian function and fertility recover favorably even in teratoma‐associated cases, supporting reassuring long‐term reproductive prognoses. Abstract Introduction Anti‐N‐methyl‐D‐aspartate receptor (anti‐NMDAR) encephalitis predominantly affects women of ...

Prenatal exome sequencing of fetuses with central nervous system anomalies based on prenatal ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging diagnosis: A retrospective cohort study with a systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
Prenatal exome sequencing significantly improves diagnostic yield over chromosomal microarray analysis for fetal CNS abnormalities, with a diagnostic yield of 16% in our cohort and 27% in the meta‐analysis. Diagnostic yields vary across different phenotypes. Abstract Introduction Fetal central nervous system (CNS) abnormalities have diverse etiologies,

CoolCuddle and Autonomic Regulation in Infants With Hypoxic‐Ischaemic Encephalopathy: An Intervention Study

open access: yesActa Paediatrica, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim We evaluated the impact of ‘CoolCuddle’, parental cuddling during therapeutic hypothermia intervention for hypoxic‐ischaemic encephalopathy, on heart rate variability (HRV). Methods In this prospective, single‐group, interventional study with repeated measures, we included infants ≥ 36 weeks' gestation undergoing hypothermia and CoolCuddle
