Nutritional and metabolic programming during the first thousand days of life

open access: yesLa Pediatria Medica e Chirurgica, 2017
The latest scientific acquisitions are demonstrating what has already been hypothesized for more than twenty years about the development of the state of health/illness of individuals. Indeed, certain stimuli, if applied to a sensible phase of development,

Biomimetic Bone Marrow Monocyte Membrane‐Fused Extracellular Vesicles for Targeted Therapy of Myocardial Infarction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops a biomimetic delivery system (M‐hEV) by fusing monocyte membranes with extracellular vesicles for targeted therapy of damaged cardiac tissue. The system homes to injured myocardium through specific molecular pathways. In a myocardial infarction model, M‐hEV effectively accumulates in the heart, reduces infarct size, alleviates ...

Determinants of Extended Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Stay [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Neonatology
Background: Prolonged hospitalization in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) escalates healthcare costs and potentially exposes neonates to further complications. This study aimed to identify the significant predictors influencing the length of stay (

The E3 Ligase RNF115 Aggravates Pathological Cardiac Hypertrophy via Ubiquitin‐Mediated Degradation of SPTBN1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In response to hypertrophic stimuli, increased c‑JUN phosphorylation upregulates RNF115, leading to SPTBN1 ubiquitination and degradation. which promotes F‑actin depolymerization and YAP activation, driving cardiac hypertrophy. The RNF115 inhibitor DTD effectively suppresses SPTBN1 ubiquitination and cardiac hypertrophy.

From the “old NEC” to the “new NECs”

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric and Neonatal Individualized Medicine, 2014
Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is an acute inflammatory disease of the neonatal intestine that strikes in 1 of 1,000 live births. Its etiology is unknown.

Work-related burden on physicians and nurses working in neonatal intensive care units: a survey [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Aim: This study aimed at exploring the type, degree, and duration of work-related burden on neonatal physicians and nurses working in tertiary level neonatal intensive care units, its impact on their private life, and at assessing which coping strategies

Ultrasound‐Activatable Piezoelectric Hydrogel Reprograms Mitochondrial Epigenetics for Osteoarthritis Therapy via the mTOR/GATD3A Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An ultrasound‐activatable piezoelectric hydrogel reprograms chondrocyte mitochondrial epigenetics via the mTOR/GATD3A axis, clearing damaged mitochondria and alleviating osteoarthritis progression in both mouse models and human cartilage explants. ABSTRACT The avascular nature of cartilage hinders drug delivery for osteoarthritis (OA) therapy.

Collaboration, participation and non-participation: decisions about involvement in randomised controlled trials for clinicians and parents in two neonatal trials [PDF]

open access: yes
Background: The ethical basis of randomised controlled trials is equipoise, whether at the collective or individual level. Neonatal intensive care trials are therefore conducted in a context of clinical uncertainty as well as stress

Neuron‐Derived MIF Engages VCAM1 to Fuel a Self‐Amplifying CXCL8 Loop That Drives Perineural Invasion and Metastasis in Gastric Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Neuron‐derived MIF binds VCAM1 on gastric cancer cells and activates ERK/STAT3 signaling, leading to CXCL8 transcription and secretion. Tumor‐derived CXCL8 subsequently stimulates neuronal CXCR2 to enhance MIF production, establishing a self‐amplifying MIF–VCAM1–CXCL8 positive‐feedback loop that promotes perineural invasion, tumor progression, and ...
