RFID tracking of sublethal effects of two neonicotinoid insecticides on the foraging behavior of Apis mellifera

open access: yes, 2012
The development of insecticides requires valid risk assessment procedures to avoid causing harm to beneficial insects and especially to pollinators such as the honeybee Apis mellifera.

Combined effects of canola plant density and insecticide management strategies on flea beetle abundance, canola defoliation, and yield across the Canadian prairies

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Increasing canola plant density reduced flea beetle abundance per plant and increased yield, independent of region or insecticide use, highlighting its potential as a component of integrated pest management. Abstract The crucifer flea beetle, Phyllotreta cruciferae (Goeze), and the striped flea beetle, Phyllotreta striolata (Fabricius) (Coleoptera ...

A beekeeper's perspective on the neonicotinoid ban [PDF]

open access: yesPest Management Science, 2017
Abstract Bees and agrochemicals have a long history. For example, the first volume of IBRA 's journal Bee World in 1919 contains mention of poisoning of bees by spraying an orchard with lead arsenate.

Transport engineering as a strategy to realize rapeseed's potential as a protein‐rich food

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The heavily pesticide‐dependent rapeseed is an under‐utilized protein source for food owing to anti‐nutritional glucosinolates. Transport engineering technology may reduce glucosinolates in seeds while increasing defense in vegetative parts. Abstract Rapeseed is the world's second‐largest oilseed crop, and the low‐value press cake that remains after ...

Incorporation of N-doped biochar into zero-valent iron for efficient reductive degradation of neonicotinoids: mechanism and performance

open access: yesBiochar, 2023
The extensive use of neonicotinoids on food crops for pest management has resulted in substantial environmental contamination. It is imperative to develop an effective remediation material and technique as well as to determine the evolution pathways of ...

Environmental fate and exposure; neonicotinoids and fipronil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Systemic insecticides are applied to plants using a wide variety of methods, ranging from foliar sprays to seed treatments and soil drenches. Neonicotinoids and fipronil are among the most widely used pesticides in the world.

Neonicotinoids: Spreading, Translocation and Aquatic Toxicity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Various environmental and ecotoxicological aspects related to applications of neonicotinoid insecticides are assessed. Dosages of neonicotinoids applied in seed coating materials were determined and are compared to other applications (spray and granule).

SYN‐A, a naturally derived synergist, restores pyrethroid efficacy against cabbage stem flea beetle but negatively impacts its parasitoid Microctonus brassicae

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
SYN‐A, a naturally derived synergist, inhibited key metabolic pathways associated with pyrethroid insecticide resistance in cabbage stem flea beetle (CSFB) and its parasitoid Microctonus brassicae. SYN‐A restored pyrethroid efficacy against resistant CSFB allowing up to 80% reduction in application rates.

Photolysis of dinotefuran and nitenpyram in water and ice phase: Influence mechanism of temperature over photolysis

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
Neonicotinoids are widely used pesticides around the world, but the photolysis of neonicotinoids in cold agricultural region are still in blank. This paper aimed to study the influence of cold temperature over photolysis of neonicotinoids.
