Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

PAK1 activation drives divergent resistance mechanisms to aromatase inhibition and tamoxifen in a luminal: A breast cancer model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer remains a major cause of cancer death in women, frequently developing endocrine therapy resistance. This study demonstrates that upregulated p21‐activated kinase 1 (PAK1) activity drives resistance to tamoxifen and long‐term estrogen deprivation in ER+ breast cancer models.

ANASTOMOTIC RECURRENCE AFTER 1/3-YEAR RECTAL NEOPLASM OPERATED WITH PRESERVATION OF THE ANAL SPHINCTER [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The quality of surgery, the limits of resection, the total excretion of "mesorectum", mechanical or manual anastomosis and pre-and postoperative oncologic treatment of rectal cancer, all these, may influence the incidence of local recurrence.

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

Meta-analysis of the influence of surgical margin and adjuvant radiotherapy on local recurrence after resection of sporadic desmoid-type fibromatosis

open access: yes, 2017
Background Extra-abdominal desmoid-type fibromatosis (DF) is a rare, locally aggressive neoplasm that is usually managed conservatively.

Long‐Term Follow‐Up of Chemotherapy‐Associated Biological Aging in Women With Early Breast Cancer

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Women threated with adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer have sustained long‐term increase in p16INK4a,, a robust marker of cell senescence, suggesting a chemotherapy‐associated age acceleration. p16INK4a as well as other biomarkers may identify patients at greatest risk for senescence‐related diseases of aging.

Risk Prediction Models for Recurrence After Curative Treatment of Early‐Stage or Locally Advanced Lung Cancer: A Systematic Review

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This systematic review synthesizes prognostic models for survival and recurrence in resected non‐small cell lung cancer. While many models demonstrate moderate to good discrimination, few are externally validated and reporting quality is variable, limiting clinical applicability and highlighting the need for robust, transparent model development ...

Delayed Recurrence of Mandibular Ameloblastoma in Soft Tissues of Neck: A Case Report of a Rare Entity

open access: yesJournal of the Dow University of Health Sciences
Ameloblastoma is the second most common odontogenic neoplasm and is locally aggressive. Various treatment approaches exist, with resection involving safe margins associated with the lowest recurrence rates.

Atypical fibroxanthoma management: Recurrence, metastasis and disease-specific death

open access: yes, 2017
Atypical fibroxanthoma (AFX) is a rare spindle cell neoplasm predominantly found on the head and neck of elderly individuals with sun-damaged skin, with no evidence-based guidelines for their management.
