Diagnosis of bovine neosporosis
Veterinary Parasitology, 2006The protozoan parasite Neospora caninum is a major cause of abortion in cattle. The diagnosis of neosporosis-associated mortality and abortion in cattle is difficult. In the present paper we review histologic, serologic, immunohistochemical, and molecular methods for dignosis of bovine neosporosis. Although not a routine method of diagnosis, methods to

Neospora caninum is a coccidian parasite of animals. It is a major cause of abortion in cattle in many countries. Domestic dogs and coyotes are the only known definitive hosts for N caninum. It is one of the most efficiently transmitted infections of cattle, and up to 90% of cattle in some herds are infected.

Neospora caninum is a protozoan parasite that was mistaken for Toxoplasma gondii until the mid-1980's. Although it was first identified in dogs, neosporosis has recently been recognized as a major cause of abortion in cattle, particularly dairy cattle, worldwide. Full article published in Compendium's Food Animal, Vol 19 ( 4), April ...

Canine cutaneous neosporosis in Brazil
Veterinary Dermatology, 2016The clinical signs of infection in dogs with Neospora caninum are usually associated with neurological disorders and are seen in young dogs.

The comparative pathogenesis of neosporosis
Trends in Parasitology, 2002Since its first description in dogs in 1984, the protozoan parasite Neospora caninum has been found to infect a wide range of animals, worldwide. In cattle, N. caninum has particular significance as a cause of abortion in which persistence of infection in the mother, recrudescence of the parasite during pregnancy, and the vulnerability of the placenta ...
