A regional model for estimating the aboveground carbon density of Borneo's tropical forests from airborne laser scanning [PDF]
Borneo contains some of the world's most biodiverse and carbon dense tropical forest, but this 750,000-km2 island has lost 62% of its old-growth forests within the last 40 years. Efforts to protect and restore the remaining forests of Borneo hinge on recognising the ecosystem services they provide, including their ability to store and sequester carbon.

Threatened bryophytes of the neotropical rain forest : a status report [PDF]
Tropical deforestation, inevitably, leads to the local loss of bryophyte species. Recent studies show that the degree of species loss may vary considerably and depends on the scale or amount of habitat change that has occurred.

Big Cat Mortality in Subsistence Hunts in Amazonia 亚马孙雨林地区生计狩猎中的大型猫科动物致死情况研究
We use data from a participatory biodiversity monitoring program to estimate the annual mortality of jaguars and pumas resulting from subsistence hunts in two Amazonian Extractive Reserves. We estimate that around 50 big cats are killed annually in the study area, which is consistent with an independent estimate for the same area and within the same ...

Freshwater mussel conservation: A global horizon scan of emerging threats and opportunities
We identified 14 emerging and poorly understood threats and opportunities for addressing the global conservation of freshwater mussels over the next decade. Prioritization of our topics can help to drive a proactive approach to the conservation of this declining group which provides a multitude of important ecosystem services. Abstract We identified 14

Our methodology is readily applicable to other regions where offshore wind (OSW) development is planned and songbird migration is common, allowing research and monitoring activities to be targeted to species most likely to be negatively affected by OSW facility encounters. Abstract As offshore wind (OSW) energy expands globally, migratory songbirds are

Studying seasonal changes in the vocal activity of birds may shed light on the function of avian vocalizations and the phenology of life history events. Our current knowledge regarding the seasonality of the vocal behaviour of tropical birds in general, and avian brood parasites in particular, is very limited.
