Chlorantraniliprole-mediated toxicity and changes in sexual fitness of the Neotropical brown stink bug Euschistus heros

Journal of Pest Science, 2016
Chlorantraniliprole is a diamide insecticide that has been widely used against lepidopteran pests. However, the actions of this compound on non-targeted insect pests such as the Neotropical brown stink bug Euschistus heros (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) have not received attention. Here, we assessed the susceptibility of E.

Proteolytic enzymes in the salivary glands of the Neotropical brown stink bugEuschistus heros: Reduced activities in imidacloprid‐resistant strains

Annals of Applied Biology, 2021
AbstractProteases present in the salivary glands of phytosuccivorous insects are responsible for the initial breakdown of dietary protein into the amino acids necessary for insect growth and development. Here, we characterised the total proteases and trypsin‐like activities in the salivary glands of the Neotropical brown stink bug,Euschistus heros(F ...

Release of the egg parasitoid Telenomus podisi to manage the Neotropical Brown Stink Bug, Euschistus heros, in soybean production

Crop Protection, 2020
Abstract Eushistus heros is one of the major pests in soybean in South America. Not only has insecticides constantly failed on its control but also triggered different negative side effects related to the overuse of chemicals. Among the biocontrol agents that can be used in Augmentative Biological Control, Telenomus podisi stands out due to its high ...

Isolation and evaluation of entomopathogenic fungi against the neotropical brown stink bug Euschistus heros (F.) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) under laboratory conditions

Biocontrol Science and Technology, 2020
Although the brown stink bug, Euschistus heros (F.) is susceptible to entomopathogenic fungi, only a single formulation is currently available on the Brazilian market for its control.

Seasonal abundance of the neotropical brown stink bug, Euschistus heros, in overwintering sites, and the breaking of dormancy

Entomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, 1997
AbstractThe seasonal abundance of the neotropical brown stink bug, Euschistus heros (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae), in overwintering sites in northern Paraná state, Brazil (latitude 23°11′ S, longitude 51°11′ W) was monitored from September 1994 to August 1995.

Purification, characterization, and inhibition studies of a new acetylcholinesterase obtained from the neotropical brown stink bug Euschistus heros

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules
We purified acetylcholinesterase from adult Euschistus heros stink bugs (AChEeh) a pest that damages economically important crops by affinity chromatography. An AChEeh inhibitor was bound to the resin, which provided selectivity for the enzyme and yielded 6.82 % of pure AChEeh.

Non‐targeted insecticidal stress in a pest species: insecticides, sexual fitness and hormesis in the Neotropical brown stink bug Euschistus heros

Annals of Applied Biology, 2018
AbstractAn understudied aspect of insecticides is their stress on non‐targeted pest species. Sublethal insecticidal stress may elicit a range of protective and non‐protective responses that may affect behaviour and sexual fitness of the exposed insects, which may lead to negative, neutral or stimulatory (i.e. hormetic) responses.

Performance and seasonal abundance of the neotropical brown stink bug, Euschistus heros nymphs and adults on a novel food plant (pigeonpea) and soybean

Entomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, 1998
AbstractPigeonpea, Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp. (Leguminosae) was found as a novel food plant of the neotropical brown stink bug, Euschistus heros (F.), in Paraná State, Brazil. Laboratory studies indicated nymphs performing better when fed on immature pods of soybean, Glycine max (L.) Merrill (Leguminosae), than on immature pods of pigeonpea.

Effectiveness of an oil-based Beauveria bassiana formulation for controlling the neotropical brown stink bug, Euschistus heros (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) on soybean crops

Bulletin of Entomological Research
Abstract The fungus Beauveria bassiana (Unioeste 76) was tested against the soybean pest Euschistus heros in laboratory, greenhouse, and field. In the laboratory, insects were sprayed with pure conidia (TC) suspended in distilled water or in an oil dispersion formulation (OD; vegetable oil) at a concentration of 109 conidia/mL.
