Herpes Simplex Virus 1 in Trigeminal Ganglia of Trafficked Neotropical Primates, Peru, 2024 [PDF]
We detected herpes simplex virus 1 in the trigeminal ganglia of trafficked Neotropical primates (1 Aotus azarai; 3 Sapajus macrocephalus) in Peru. Tests also revealed Saimiriine alphaherpesvirus 1 in the trigeminal ganglia of 2 Saimiri sp. monkeys.

Workshop summary: neotropical primates in biomedical research. [PDF]
This report summarizes presentations and discussions at an NIH-sponsored workshop on Neotropical Primates in Biomedical Research, held in September 2010. Neotropical primates (New World monkeys), with their smaller size, faster maturation, and shorter lifespans than Old World monkeys, are efficient models and present unique opportunities for studying ...

Female Reproductive System Neoplasms in Neotropical Primates. [PDF]
ABSTRACTBackgroundThere are no previous descriptions of the prevalence of spontaneous female reproductive neoplasms in neotropical primates.MethodsA 6‐year study of pathological records from the Anatomy Pathology Sector from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (SAP/UFRuralRJ) was conducted. All cases of female nonhuman primate taxa belonging

Experimental Zika Virus Infection of Neotropical Primates. [PDF]
The establishment of a sylvatic reservoir of Zika virus (ZIKV) in the Americas is dependent on the susceptibility of primates of sufficient population density, the duration and magnitude of viremia, and their exposure to the human mosquito-borne transmission cycle.

Comparative Immunopathology of Toxoplasma gondii Natural Infections in Marmosets (Callithrix spp.) and Howler Monkeys (Alouatta spp.), Brazil. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Introduction Neotropical primates (NTPs) present varying susceptibility to toxoplasmosis caused by Toxoplasma gondii, but their immunopathogenic responses remain poorly understood. Materials and Methods Local immune responses were characterized in the liver, spleen, and central nervous system (CNS) of 50 naturally infected NTPs (31 Callithrix ...

Environmental enrichment for neotropical primates in captivity Enriquecimento ambiental para primatas neotropicais em cativeiro [PDF]
Captivity is an extreme non-natural environment for primates. The success of a breeding colony depends of management and veterinarian procedures which must rely on the knowledge of primates' behavioral needs. Environmental enrichment consists of a series

Ultrasonography of the neotropical primate female reproductive system
The Neotropical (e. g., Aotus sp., Callithrix jacchus, Saguinus sp., Saimiri sp., and Sapajus sp.) primates are important models for biomedical research and studies on reproductive physiology and biotechnology.

Coinfection with Canine Distemper Virus and Yellow Fever Virus in a Neotropical Primate in Brazil
We describe a natural coinfection with canine distemper virus (CDV) and yellow fever virus in a free-ranging neotropical primate of the genus Callithrix, found dead in the northeastern region of Brazil.
