Population recovery of an endangered macaw enhances long‐distance seed dispersal via stomatochory

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Seed dispersal by large, mobile vertebrates plays a key role in shaping plant spatial dynamics and community structure. However, how variation in animal population size influences the magnitude and spatial scale of seed dispersal remains poorly understood.

Polyphyly and gene flow between non-sibling Heliconius species

open access: yes, 2006
Background: The view that gene flow between related animal species is rare and evolutionarily unimportant largely antedates sensitive molecular techniques.

Speciation with gene flow

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Biodiversity is threatened by human activities, with extinction debt accumulating rapidly. Many of these activities change the connectivity of populations, fragmenting existing population systems or bringing previously isolated populations or species into contact.

BREEDING BIOLOGY OF PASSERINES IN THE SUBTROPICAL BRAZILIAN ATLANTIC FOREST

open access: yes, 2016
Information on breeding biology of birds is fundamental for the understanding of life history evolution and conservation. This information is only beginning to accumulate for Neotropical birds but the southern subtropics are still overlooked.

Multifaceted obscurity of Thismia abei (Thismiaceae): A fairy lantern with the protologue long disregarded in practice

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Tiny, leafless fairy lanterns are easily overlooked on the forest floor. Thismia abei, endemic to Japan, persists in small, unstable populations and is listed nationally as Critically Endangered. Our recent work has revealed another, less obvious form of obscurity.

Neotropical moss floras : species common to North and South America

open access: yes, 1995
