Neotypification of the genusTrichosporon
Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, 1992The currently accepted type species of the genus Trichosporon Behrend is T. beigelii. This species has formerly been regarded as identical to T. cutaneum. However, these fungi are now known to represent separate species with different ecology. The first species described in Trichosporon was T. ovoides, an agent of human white piedra.
