Nephropathia Epidemica and Puumala Virus in Austria

European Journal of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, 1999
To study the epidemiology of hantavirus infections in Austria, 1215 humans and 596 rodents of different species were tested for the presence of antibodies against Puumala and Hantaan virus. Direct virus identification by polymerase chain reaction in lung tissue of serologically positive rodents was performed to verify antibody results and to determine ...

A swedish fatal case of nephropathia epidemica

Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1991
A previously healthy 55-year-old man with nephropathia epidemica (NE) developed disseminated intravascular coagulation, anuria and shock and died on day 6 of his disease. By use of indirect immunofluorescence technique and ELISA, specific serum IgM antibodies against Puumala virus could be detected, thus confirming the clinical diagnosis.

Nephropathia Epidemica (Puumala Virus Infection) in Austrian Children

Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, 2010
From 2000 to 2007, 19 Austrian children (aged 6-18 years) had serologically verified nephropathia epidemica. Common clinical features were abdominal/flank/back pain, fever, nausea, vomiting, headache, and transient visual disturbances. Acute renal failure was present in 18 (95%) patients. All patients recovered completely.

An Epidemiological Survey of Nephropathia Epidemica in Sweden

Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1983
The indirect immunofluorescence test (IFT) using the Hantaan virus (agent of Korean hemorrhagic fever, KHF) was applied for detection of antibodies to nephropathia epidemica (NE). From 103 patients with symptoms suggesting NE, 61% revealed KHF/NE antibodies in the convalescent sera.

Medical imaging in nephropathia epidemica and their clinical correlations

European Journal of Internal Medicine, 2004
BACKGROUND: This study was designed to evaluate radiological findings in chest and sinus radiographs and renal ultrasound (US) in patients with nephropathia epidemica (NE) and to determine whether changes in these medical images are related to each other or to the clinical course of NE. METHODS: Radiological findings and clinical course were studied in

Udbrud af nephropathia epidemica i Midtjylland

2021
In Denmark, most cases of nephropathia epidemica (NE) occur on the island of Funen and are caused by the transmission of Puumala hantavirus to humans from the bank vole. This is a case report comprising four cases of NE occurring in close vicinity to Silkeborg, Jutland, where the disease is not usually seen.
