New methods to detect early manifestations of adverse side effects of glucocorticosteroids in children [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The article focuses on the early manifestations of adverse side effects in children with nephrotic syndrome receiving glucocorticosteroids. The search for criteria of early side effect manifestations is a real challenge nowadays.

Nicotinamide Attenuates Complement and Coagulation Pathways and Resultant Renal Fibrosis

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 39, Issue 23, 15 December 2025.
The coagulation and complement cascades were elevated in the pathogenesis of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and may contribute to both kidney injury and cardiovascular risk. These excessive signals and the associated innate immune responses were suppressed by the NAD+ precursor nicotinamide (NAM).

Microneedles From Shape‐Preserving Crosslinked Poly(Vinyl Alcohol) Hydrogels: Minimising Interference in Transdermal Proteomics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, Volume 10, Issue 23, December 3, 2025.
Hydrogel‐forming microneedle patches are developed using shape‐preserving PVA‐PVP hydrogels, with and without chitosan, for minimally invasive transdermal protein biomarker sampling. The optimised patches enable efficient interstitial fluid uptake and proteomic analysis, while minimising interference.

An Unusual Cause of Abdominal Ascites. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Abdominal ascites is most commonly caused by portal hypertension from liver cirrhosis. When present, portal hypertension is associated with an elevated serum-ascites albumin gradient (SAAG) ≥1.1 g/dL. In contrast, a SAAG < 1.1 g/dL suggests malignancy,

Myasthenia Gravis in a Child With Schimke Immuno‐Osseous Dysplasia: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 12, December 2025.
ABSTRACT We report a rare association between Schimke immune‐osseous dysplasia and myasthenia gravis. Clinicians should be aware of potential autoimmune neuromuscular complications in SIOD, as early recognition and tailored immunosuppression may improve prognosis.

Congenital nephrotic syndrome [PDF]

open access: yesPediatric Nephrology, 2007
Abstract Congenital nephrotic syndrome (CNS) is a rare kidney disorder characterized by heavy proteinuria, hypoproteinemia, and edema starting soon after birth. The majority of cases are caused by genetic defects in the components of the glomerular filtration barrier, especially nephrin and podocin.

Genetic testing in steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome: why, who, when and how?

open access: yesPediatric nephrology (Berlin, West), 2017
Steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome (SRNS) is a common cause of chronic kidney disease in childhood and has a significant risk of rapid progression to end-stage renal disease.
